According to the American Academy of Dermatology Association, you should clean your makeup brushes every seven to 10 days. They accumulate oil, dirt, and makeup over time.
Bacteria can also breed on dirty brushes, resulting in infections, rashes, and acne. The good news is you only need two products to clean them: olive oil and antibacterial soap.
Per Healthline, olive oil has excellent antibacterial properties. It is gentle on the skin, so some people use it to take off makeup, moisturize, and exfoliate.
Swirl the brushes around in the mixture until they look clean, then rinse them using warm water. Air dry and set a reminder to repeat the process every seven to 10 days.
