Can You Use Snail Mucin With Retinol Or Skincare Acids?
By MARY WOJCICKI
Mucin is the slime produced by snails and due to its popularity in Korean beauty has become a common ingredient in skincare products around the world. While most sources online have noted that very little research has been done on snail mucin, there is some good news when it comes to using it with other products.
According to dermatologist Sheel Desai-Solomon, MD, “There aren’t any well-documented side effects of snail mucin,” which means you’ll need to approach the ingredient with some degree of caution, especially if you have allergies or sensitive skin. Dermatologist Mamina Turegano, MD, assures that “snail mucin pairs well with most skincare."
Snail mucin can be mixed with retinol and skincare acids, as many skincare products already contain some combination of these ingredients. Anything that has been tested and approved by a regulatory agency should be perfectly safe to use on your skin, but as always, you should speak to your dermatologist if you have specific concerns.
