The Worst Hair Mistakes Of The Women Around Trump
When it comes to hair, President Donald Trump sets the bar low for everyone around him. "It's definitely a strange creation – but it's also a bafflingly cleverly crafted structure," celebrity hairstylist Matthew Curtis told Gentleman's Journal, referring to Trump's signature look. "Professionals hate it, but we're also totally fascinated by its structure. I don't think anyone's going to own up to styling that hair every day, and due to the poor execution of color, it must be a home dye job," he added. While the women in the president's life could easily be professional hair models compared to him, they have also had numerous hair mishaps over the years — they just tend to go unnoticed because of Donald's notorious hairstyle.
From Ivanka Trump's chunky '90s highlights that just didn't work for her to Kimberly Guilfoyle's impossible-to-ignore hair extensions, the ladies around the president have experienced quite a few hair mistakes over the years. Of course, first lady Melania Trump and the president's second daughter, Tiffany Trump, have also made our list. But hey, if there's one thing we can all learn from these women, it's that a bad hair day (or decade, in Kellyanne Conway's case) doesn't really define us.
Ivanka Trump's 2025 Super Bowl extensions were visible and distracting
Ivanka Trump attended the 2025 Super Bowl in New Orleans, Louisiana, with her father, President Donald Trump. For the outing, Ivanka wore a simple white dress with straight hair. Unfortunately, a video recorded by a member of their team and posted to the official POTUS and White House Instagram accounts showcased the former senior advisor's head from the back, and folks were quick to notice that Ivanka's hair extensions were very visible, with the transition from her hair to her extensions being extremely obvious.
"Ivanka...your tracks are showing," one Instagram user commented on the post. Speaking to the Daily Mail after the Big Game, hairstylist Julia North said that she believes Ivanka was "wearing what looks like 18 to 20 inch extensions." The stylist also revealed that the extensions look like "premium quality human hair extensions" and that the extensions most likely cost "$2,000 to $3,500... plus installation costs of around $500." Hairstylist Mia Santiago added that visible hair extensions often happen with clients who have fine hair. Moreover, the expert clarified that Ivanka's extensions are most likely "showing because her individual hairs are very fine so they're easy to see through." With Ivanka being the president's daughter, one would expect that this type of hair faux pas wouldn't happen, but hey, maybe Ivanka just needs to follow some of the same simple tips for taking care of hair extensions that the rest of us follow.
Kimberly Guilfoyle's extensions are often way too noticeable
Former news personality Kimberly Guilfoyle is known for her long, brown locks, but those who remember her early days on Fox News know that thick and long hair wasn't always her signature look. In the late 2000s, the former prosecutor rocked mid-length hair that was a lot thinner than her hair today. Of course, Kimberly Guilfoyle has undergone a huge transformation since then, leading to her glammed-up look today.
While her hair looks perfectly styled most of the time, just like Ivanka Trump, Guilfoyle is also no stranger to her extensions being visible. Anyone who checks her social media will notice that her Instagram feed is perfectly curated to show her best hair moments; however, other people, like Michigan Republican Party co-chair Malinda Reese Pego, have posted pictures with Guilfoyle in which her extensions can't be missed. "The trend at the moment is to look elegant and effortless, using undetectable extensions," hair salon founder Olia Cutz told Elle in 2024, and that hasn't changed in 2025. Unfortunately, it seems as if Guilfoyle didn't get that memo. The extensions would look a lot less obvious if Guilfoyle went with a slightly shorter length, but hey, to each their own.
Melania Trump's hair extensions were revealed by none other than JD Vance
When it comes to the women in Donald Trump's life, his wife is usually the one who always looks perfectly put together. From Melania Trump's bold inauguration ball look featuring one of 2025's hottest accessory trends to Melania Trump's style transformation being genuinely stunning, the former model definitely knows a thing or two when it comes to fashion and beauty. Of course, this just makes her hair extension faux pas from 2024 even worse.
Ready to ring the bell on the New York Stock Exchange.
President Trump will lead a great American comeback! pic.twitter.com/uH235bxRlD— JD Vance (@JDVance) December 12, 2024
Last December, Vice President J.D. Vance shared a photo of the Trumps from the back on X, formerly known as Twitter, and in it, Melania's hair parted in a way that seemingly revealed her extensions. "I'm guessing she has extensions. Her hair was not done very well, very frizzy, she probably did it herself and did not check the back well enough," a user commented after seeing the image. Speaking to the Daily Mail, hairstylist Julia North revealed that she believes the Slovenia native's hair isn't completely natural. "Looking at that specific photo, yes, those appear to be tape-in or beaded-row extensions," the hairstylist shared, adding, "You can spot the telltale signs where the natural hair meets the extension pieces, particularly visible in the mid-sections."
Melania Trump's lighter locks were quickly called out to resemble her husband's hair
Melania Trump is known for her honey-blond hair, which is usually achieved through a balayage that leaves her roots slightly darker. However, while the first lady looks great with blond hair, shades that are much lighter and brassier than her current look definitely don't suit her. "Hair looks 'brassy' when the color (whether natural or colored) starts to fade and expose the underlying pigment," Steven Picciano, National Artist for Goldwell, explained to Real Simple. "Everyone has warm underlying pigment so when it is exposed it starts to make the hair appear brassy or orange, especially in direct light."

In 2018, Melania rocked a shade of blond that had many wondering whether she was taking inspiration from her husband when choosing the shade of her hair. In fact, users on social media turned the look into a meme, with many poking fun at the former model's hair color. "As a fake blonde myself, I would like to defend my people. What Melania did to her hair is more spicy mustard at the Chinese takeout place, not blonde," one user shared on X, formerly known as Twitter. Luckily, it seems as if Melania has since read our ultimate guide to fixing and preventing brassy hair, as she hasn't served us this specific shade since.
Ivanka Trump and Kimberly Guilfoyle are no strangers to Bumpits — and they're always so obvious
Bumpits were a major part of hair styling in the 2010s, providing an easy way to achieve a voluminous hairstyle around the crown of your hair (plus, you couldn't escape the brand's commercials, as they were seemingly everywhere). For those with fine hair, they were often a beloved product, but they have since gone out of style, especially with popular hair trends changing over the years.
While voluminous and thick hair will always be pretty, Bumpits have become way too obvious, and spotting them essentially ruins the illusion of volume. In the world of the rich and famous, Ivanka Trump and Kimberly Guilfoyle are great examples of why this trend has faded. Both ladies have been spotted with a suspiciously large amount of volume at the back of their heads, making us wonder if a Bumpit is hiding underneath. Hairstylist Ghanima Abdullah explained to She Finds that Bumpits can help make thin hair, in particular, appear thicker, as they are "giving an illusion of extra hair up top, as your hair falls over it." And while they tend to look great with half-updos, unfortunately, the way that Ivanka's and Guilfoyle's hairstylists have styled them makes them super obvious. Now, we're all for using hair products that work for you, but perhaps Ivanka and Guilfoyle should consider going for haircuts for thin hair that pump up the volume instead of weighing their hair down with extensions.
Lauren Boebert's deep side part is too much even for millenials
If you're a millennial, chances are that a deep side part played a major role in your life at some point. However, with the rise of Gen Z and its preference for a middle part, the deep side part has not only gone out of style but also become a major sign of not being up to date with the times. And while side parts have had a comeback recently, the trends aren't gravitating toward a super-deep side part — just one slightly more to the left or right of the middle.
Of course, there's nothing wrong with a side part, or even a deep one if the occasion calls for it. "Deep side parts look gorgeous with a slicked-back style, so they are a good option for humid weather when you're looking to keep hair out of your face," celebrity hairstylist Lacy Redway explained to Byrdie, adding that "[Deep side parts] look very regal with an updo for a special occasion." However, representative Lauren Boebert's deep side part is a look that truly doesn't do her any favors. Now, we're not saying she needs to commit to switching to the middle, but more often than not, her parting looks so unnatural that her side bangs are fighting their way to the other side. Just changing it a tiny bit toward the middle would result in Boebert not being on this list.
Kellyanne Conway's stringy hair has been in the spotlight for quite some time
Sadly, not all haircuts look the best on folks with thin hair, though we always advocate for wearing the styles and cuts that make you happy. Political consultant Kellyanne Conway appears to be one such example of someone who has fine hair, which notoriously breaks easier than thicker, stronger locks, but doesn't know how best to style it. This can leave her with the look of stringy and unhealthy hair ends at times.
The good news is that the consultant's hair could be easily fixed. For instance, a bob haircut would get rid of the stringy pieces and add lots of natural volume to her hair. In fact, something like the blended bob, which was huge short hair trend last summer, could give Conway a more youthful and easy-going look, and if she didn't like it, she could rest easily knowing it would grow out soon enough. Apart from this haircut, a subtle change in her hair color could look more natural on her, as her platinum-blond shade with noticeable silver hues tends to clash with her features.
Tiffany Trump's curling iron curls desperately need some brushing out
If you hear the term "Republican hair," chances are high that Tiffany Trump will come to mind. Characterized by being bright blond and curly, this hairstyle seems to be a popular choice among women in Trump's camp — and the political party in general, hence the name. Of course, blond and curly sounds fabulous, and when done the right way, the hairstyle is breathtaking. "When I think of this style, it's one that shows you have thick, healthy hair. That's really the goal, and you want to see shape," hairstylist Renee Benedict explained to Business Insider. "It's polished, refined, professional. You want to look like you have your stuff together and like you care. You want to look like you invest in your appearance. The biggest part of it is the effort."
Unfortunately, we've seen Tiffany rock curls reminiscent of the ones we all did at home with our curling irons in the late 2000s and early 2010s. And when it comes to those curls, we all know just how important it is to brush them out and style them afterward to achieve that naturally bouncy look without them looking like obvious curling-iron curls. Of course, we doubt that Tiffany is styling her hair by herself, which could mean that her hairstylist needs a reminder that voluminous curls should look natural — and that it's okay to switch the curling direction every few strands.
Tiffany Trump's pin-straight hair is definitely an outdated hairstyle
Out of all of the women surrounding the president, Tiffany Trump is the one who seems to struggle with both curly and straight hair. When she's not going for the classic Republican hairstyle, Donald Trump's daughter prefers her hair pin-straight, and when we say pin-straight, we mean it.
You can definitely tell that the president's fourth child is a '90s baby, as she can't seem to put the straightener down. Combined with her curtain bangs, the super-straight hair isn't doing her any favors and looks like it's meant for a blowout. Frankly, the fact that nobody in her glam team has addressed her straight hair yet keeps us up at night. Also, seeing her hair this straight brings back some awful hair memories for us. The worst part is that we've been there, and we remember thinking that our hair looked fabulous when, in reality, it was lifeless and stiff. The only difference is that, unlike Tiffany, most of us didn't have access to top-notch hairstylists who could work their magic on us.
Melania Trump's hairstylist should know better than to let her experience a wind disaster
First Lady Melania Trump is no stranger to windy hair moments. In fact, she's been photographed on countless occasions leaving an aircraft with wind completely ruining her blowout. Now, we get it — fighting the wind is difficult, but you would think that after a couple of instances of her wind-swept hair going viral, Melania's team would consider the circumstances she would be in before styling her.
Interestingly, her husband's hairstyle doesn't seem to budge like hers. "I'd say that it looks like hairspray is the most heavily-used product here – a really super-setting crafting spray," Matthew Curtis told Gentleman's Journal of Donald Trump's hair. And if his hair can survive the wind, Melania's hairstylists should have borrowed some of whatever he's using. However, if, for some reason, hairspray isn't enough, using hair accessories to hold the hair in place is always an option. But hey — perhaps it's Melania who insists her hair always be down and free. More power to her!
Ivanka Trump's chunky highlights are a Y2K look she didn't need
When Ivanka Trump showed up to the anniversary of the Women's Global Development Prosperity Initiative in 2020, all eyes were on her nostalgic '90s/early aughts hair. The president's daughter appeared with chunky highlights and a slightly asymmetrical lob, enhancing the look's Y2K flair even more. At the time, chunky highlights were having a moment; however, the trend never really picked up as it did back in the day. "Today, colorists use foils to help create structured placement with chunkier highlights for a soft grow out," colorist Lauren Mildice explained to InStyle. "The more updated and modern version for highlighting is to have them pop in the right places, and typically, the face carries the most brightness."
Unfortunately, the hairstyle looked inauthentic on Ivanka, and folks let this be known on social media. "Someone tell Ivanka we aren't bringing back chunky highlights, please," one user shared on X, formerly known as Twitter. Luckily, the eldest daughter of Donald Trump quickly realized this herself and went back to her signature blond locks soon after. If only she'd checked out our list of lob haircuts for the perfect in-between length, she might never have made this faux pas.
