What Beth Dutton From Yellowstone Looks Like In Real Life

"Yellowstone" is full of colorful and often complicated characters, and that definitely includes Beth Dutton. Played by Kelly Reilly, the middle child of John and Evelyn Dutton is known for her sharp tongue and a penchant for exacting revenge on her enemies. It even seems that Reilly was born for the role — she was so pumped after reading the script that "Yellowstone" creator Taylor Sheridan offered her the part after a phone call. "I didn't even audition," Reilly told Town & Country in November 2024. "I was terrified, because I didn't know how I was going to do it. And it took me a minute to find [my character]," she added.

Of course, Reilly leaned into her role as Beth, and in Season 3 of "Yellowstone," her character gets seriously injured after a bomb explosion, resulting in many scars on her face. Naturally, it was thanks to special-effects makeup, but even outside of this tragedy, the "Sherlock Holmes" star's real-life looks are quite a departure from her "Yellowstone" character. Spoiler alert: Her real hair color isn't the same as Beth's.

Kelly Reilly has red hair in real life, unlike Beth Dutton

Just like Beth Dutton, "Yellowstone" leading lady Kelly Reilly, whose real-life partner is financier Kyle Baugher, has thick, voluminous hair, but in real life, she wears it in a warm, auburn shade. It's unclear if Reilly wears a wig on set or dyes her hair blond while filming, but it seems red is her natural color. In 2024, the Daily Mail shared a throwback picture of the actor from 1995, which would make her around 18 years old at the time, and her hair was a coppery shade that was just slightly redder than it is now.

A clue may have revealed that Reilly does, in fact, dye her hair blond for "Yellowstone." In a now-expired Instagram Story snap from 2024, Reilly is seen taking a selfie of her freshly colored tawny tresses cut in a lob with sexy '70s bangs. "[Hairstylist Tim Muir] took me back to red, red, the other night on a full moon after 7 years. All the feelings..." she'd written on the photo. If our calculations are correct and "Yellowstone" began filming in 2017, that would make exactly seven years since Season 5 concluded filming, which means Reilly's strands were likely processed to portray Dutton. Mystery solved!

Kelly Reilly's off-set outfits aren't as racy as Beth Dutton's

Beth Dutton has worn some pretty eye-catching outfits on "Yellowstone," and she isn't afraid to show off her décolletage. She also mixes up her fashion with Western boots and jeans, which is, of course, fitting with the series' Montana backdrop. However, in real life, Kelly Reilly dresses much simpler, telling Town & Country, "I'm not someone who's particularly fashion-oriented. I feel impressed and slightly intimidated by people who are, but I don't necessarily have that." She continued, "My style is very jeans and a T-shirt with a sweater and then maybe a summer dress in the summer. That's kind of as extravagant as I get. When I feel good about myself and what I'm wearing, it doesn't matter what it looks like." As she added to Town & Country, a staple pair of boots — an old Prada in her case — is all Reilly needs to feel put-together.

Although Reilly is one of the "Yellowstone" leading ladies who looks gorgeous without makeup and has a pretty laid-back style sense, she uses her character to channel her inner vixen. Back in 2017, she told TV Insider that the shiny, gold form-fitting dress she wore in Season 4 of "Yellowstone" was something she picked out herself. "I was like, 'What's the most gangster-moll dress I can have?'" she recalled. However, Reilly worried that she wouldn't be able to execute it properly and asked series creator Taylor Sheridan if she could wear a proper wedding dress instead, but she was met with a big "no." Reilly declared, "And I got it: Beth doesn't give a f*** what people think of her. She makes me a braver actor."
