In January 2019, Jeff Bezos announced on X, formerly known as Twitter, that he and MacKenzie Scott had decided to split. "As our family and close friends know, after a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends," he wrote. Although many fingers pointed to Michael being the culprit who shared the deets to the tabloid, he told Business Insider, "As the 'Amazon investigators' proved, I was never sent the numerous penis photos Jeff Bezos sent my sister Lauren. And I never had access to the penis photos. Therefore it is impossible for me to have provided Jeff Bezos' penis photos to The National Enquirer."

In retaliation, Michael sued Bezos for defamation, which was later dismissed, and he was ordered to pay the tycoon over $200,000 in legal fees, per Business Insider. According to Orna and Matthew Walters, the legal drama likely caused friction between Lauren and Bezos. "Lauren's brother sued Bezos over the accusation that he revealed their affair to The National Enquirer, including sending explicit pictures and texts between the couple," they exclusively pointed out to Glam. "Marrying someone joins two families together. If the relationship is actively creating a wedge between family members, this red flag could doom the relationship," the love experts added. We have to agree — if Lauren and Bezos ever get married, the wedding will surely be awkward if Michael is in attendance.

Illicit romances are admittedly exciting, but the spell may be long gone for Lauren Sánchez and Jeff Bezos. It's been over six years since the couple reportedly got together, and even though they're not married yet, they may need to reignite the spark in their long-term relationship. "Public persona is one thing and may not match what is occurring privately," they explained, adding, "The bond they developed during the secret affair may not be enough for Bezos and Sanchez to weather the storms of marriage." Ultimately, with all the roadblocks the public couple has faced over the years, there seem to be a lot of red flags for Sánchez and Bezos to overcome.
