Red Flags In Lauren Sánchez And Jeff Bezos' Relationship From Our Dating Coaches

Lauren Sánchez and Jeff Bezos have one of the most high-profile relationships, but it's not because they're the dream couple of the century. The two became a public item in early 2019, but the timeline was pretty sketchy, as they were both divorcing their spouses at the time. "Lauren and Jeff have been spending a lot of time together over the last year and especially the past few months. At first it was socially at parties ... here and there. But their time together has definitely seemed to evolve, raising some eyebrows," a source told People that January.

Bezos and Sánchez got engaged in 2023 but have yet to officially tie the knot two years later, which has had many speculating about the state of their relationship. Holistic dating coaches Orna and Matthew Walters, authors of "Getting It Right This Time: Break Free from Your Hidden Blocks to Lasting Love," exclusively shared with Glam that they don't see a problem with that. "A long engagement in and of itself is not a red flag. Many couples are engaged for one and a half to two years before tying the knot. Rather than a red flag, it makes sense to move slowly before getting married," they told us. However, the dating experts pointed out many other differences that could come between Sánchez and Bezos.

Lauren Sánchez and Jeff Bezos both jumped from one relationship into another

In January 2019, Jeff Bezos announced on X, formerly known as Twitter, that he and MacKenzie Scott had decided to split. "As our family and close friends know, after a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends," he wrote. In October that year, Lauren Sánchez, who is known for her inappropriate outfits, finalized her divorce from now-ex Patrick Whitesell.

By then, Bezos and Sánchez were already coupled up, which dating experts Orna and Matthew Walters told us could spell trouble. "A potential red flag is that Bezos and Sanchez continued their relationship straight through their respective splits and didn't spend time as single people reflecting on what went wrong, what they could have done differently, or healing from the disappointment of a failed marriage," they exclusively shared with Glam. "Instead, during the height of their romance phase, they moved in together."

Given the overlapping of Sánchez and Bezos' relationship with their respective divorces, there has been talk that they had an affair with each other. If true, that could mean that they didn't have time to properly grieve their breakups. Orna and Matthew believe that's the wrong way to begin dating someone new, telling us, "Introspection, healing, and developing new relationship skills are the most effective ways to ensure a new relationship doesn't have a similar demise."

Lauren Sánchez and Jeff Bezos' long engagement could be because of a power struggle

Lauren Sánchez and Jeff Bezos may have begun their relationship quickly, but their road to marriage has been years in the making. In May 2023, a source revealed to People while the couple was in the South of France that they were newly engaged. "No one has ever seen her happier. She is elated to be engaged to Jeff. He is her prince," the insider shared. However, five months later, Sánchez still couldn't provide details of her upcoming nuptials. "We're still thinking about the wedding. What it's going to be. Is it going to be big? Is it going to be overseas? We don't know yet. We've only been engaged for five months!" she told Vogue.

Despite rumors of a 2024 Christmas wedding, Sánchez and Bezos remain unmarried, and Orna and Matthew Walters pointed out that the stalling may be due to the thrill of the new relationship wearing off. "Most couples get engaged and married during the chemical high of the romance phase — the first stage of a relationship. What follows is the power struggle stage, which is characterized by a battle of egos," the dating experts exclusively told Glam. "The delay in moving forward to their nuptials may mean that Sànchez and Bezos are finding their way through this difficult phase." An insider reportedly told the Daily Mail in March 2025 that Sánchez and Bezos have set a wedding date for this summer, so it remains to be seen if they'll finally tie the knot.

Lauren Sánchez and Jeff Bezos' professional lives could affect their relationship

Lauren Sánchez and Jeff Bezos are entrepreneurs who have had their own careers prior to becoming an item. However, after they began their relationship, the two started working closely together, with Bezos making his fiancée the vice chair of the Bezos Earth Fund. Dating coaches Orna and Matthew Walters, who also run a business as a couple, exclusively told us that, much like their personal lives, Sánchez and Bezos merged their professional spheres quickly. Along with working for the Bezos Earth Fund, Sánchez, who's also a licensed pilot, is slated to lead an all-female crew to space on a Blue Origin spacecraft, which Bezos owns, later this year.

Merging work as a couple isn't always glamorous, with our dating experts telling us, "Spending the bulk of shared time as co-workers and colleagues can put a damper on romance and could very well be the reason Bezos stepped outside his marriage to MacKenzie Scott, his first wife. Maintaining a work-life balance when you're both enmeshed with the same projects is tricky for married couples." With their massive bank accounts, we're sure Sánchez and Bezos make time for lavish vacations, but spending time together during work hours and their off-time is probably exhausting.

Our relationship experts say a super-long engagement could be bad for Lauren Sánchez and Jeff Bezos

The biggest question on everyone's mind when it comes to Lauren Sánchez and Jeff Bezos is if they'll ever make it down the aisle. While a two-year engagement isn't unreasonable, Orna and Matthew Walters think that going over three years is a big red flag. "If Sanchez and Bezos cannot find common ground during the power struggle stage, they'll split and move on to likely repeat their same patterns in love and dating," they exclusively shared with Glam.

If the Daily Mail source is correct and Sánchez and Bezos are set to marry this summer, then they would have been engaged for just a little over two years. The relationship experts predicted, "If they're able to move past it to the next phase, they'll be better off having their wedding during the stability stage. This phase is characterized by coming together as, 'You and me against the world.'" With all the speculation surrounding Sánchez and Bezos' maybe-marriage, they certainly have a lot to overcome.

Lauren Sánchez and Jeff Bezos have already dealt with potentially painful family drama

In 2019, the Wall Street Journal reported that Lauren Sánchez's brother, Michael Sánchez, had sold NSFW pictures of Jeff Bezos to The National Enquirer for $200,000. Along with the pics were racy texts between Lauren and the Amazon owner while they were still married to their respective spouses. Although many fingers pointed to Michael being the culprit who shared the deets to the tabloid, he told Business Insider, "As the 'Amazon investigators' proved, I was never sent the numerous penis photos Jeff Bezos sent my sister Lauren. And I never had access to the penis photos. Therefore it is impossible for me to have provided Jeff Bezos' penis photos to The National Enquirer."

In retaliation, Michael sued Bezos for defamation, which was later dismissed, and he was ordered to pay the tycoon over $200,000 in legal fees, per Business Insider. According to Orna and Matthew Walters, the legal drama likely caused friction between Lauren and Bezos. "Lauren's brother sued Bezos over the accusation that he revealed their affair to The National Enquirer, including sending explicit pictures and texts between the couple," they exclusively pointed out to Glam. "Marrying someone joins two families together. If the relationship is actively creating a wedge between family members, this red flag could doom the relationship," the love experts added. We have to agree — if Lauren and Bezos ever get married, the wedding will surely be awkward if Michael is in attendance.

The thrill of Lauren Sánchez and Jeff Bezos' once-secret romance is probably over

Illicit romances are admittedly exciting, but the spell may be long gone for Lauren Sánchez and Jeff Bezos. It's been over six years since the couple reportedly got together, and even though they're not married yet, they may need to reignite the spark in their long-term relationship. "A relationship that begins as a secret can increase the chemical rush of the romance stage. When the secret is discovered, it can lose some of the excitement that fueled the affair," Orna and Matthew Walters exclusively shared with Glam.

In addition, although Sánchez and Bezos maintain a lovey-dovey front, Orna and Matthew argued that it could just be a front. "Public persona is one thing and may not match what is occurring privately," they explained, adding, "The bond they developed during the secret affair may not be enough for Bezos and Sanchez to weather the storms of marriage." Ultimately, with all the roadblocks the public couple has faced over the years, there seem to be a lot of red flags for Sánchez and Bezos to overcome.
