The Worst-Dressed Celebs At The 2025 Oscars

The height of awards-show season is here, but few events can compare to the Oscars. Also known as The Academy Awards, the 97th Oscars took place in Hollywood, California's, historic Dolby Theatre on Sunday, March 2, 2025. The glitzy gathering saw the likes of A-list attendees from Miley Cyrus, whose style transformation was on full display, to Doja Cat out for a night on the town, celebrating the biggest achievements in cinema over the past year. The 2024 film adaptation of the Broadway musical "Wicked" earned Oscars for achievements in production design and costuming, while the celebrated thriller "The Substance" scored the Oscar for top makeup and hairstyling.

Though there's no better feeling than seeing your favorite film take home the gold, watching the stars strut their stuff on the red carpet comes as a close second. At the 2025 Oscars, many celebs sported mesmerizing red-carpet designs, from Doja Cat's feline-inspired finery to Selena Gomez's custom, blush-pink Ralph Lauren gown. Of course, there were plenty of fashion faux pas on display, too. So, without further ado, let's set our sights on some of the worst-dressed celebs at the Oscars this year.

Hannah Stocking's stuffy black look was a dud

It may not be little, but Hannah Stocking's monochromatic black dress was still eye-catching for all the wrong reasons, from its elongated corset bodice to its extra-voluminous black skirt. The billowing design seemed to swallow Stocking whole, and we weren't too fond of the hair, either. Though her makeup looked impeccable at the 2025 Oscars, the star's side-swept blond locks dragged her dreary onyx design down even further.

Zoe Saldaña struck out in scarlet Saint Laurent

Zoe Saldaña's silky Saint Laurent gown had potential to shine on the 2025 Oscars' red carpet, but the layered crimson look wasn't our favorite on the "Avatar" star. The stacked peplum skirts did Saldaña few favors, and her styling choices weren't much better. Even if you could overlook the dress' unfortunate design, her wavy, auburn tresses mimicked its silhouette, drawing the eye back down to its unflattering shape.

Rhinestones couldn't save Rachel Sennott's Oscars garb

Rachel Sennott's strapless, sequined gown may have sparkled on the 2025 Oscars' red carpet, but it didn't show the brunette beauty in the best light. And as much as we all love a bubblegum-pink look, it's safe to say that Sennott's sweetheart design wasn't her finest 'fit. Between her meekly center-parted bob and total lack of accessories, Sennott's Oscars look felt underwhelming despite the generous amount of glimmer on display.

Stacy Martin's structured gown didn't light up our lives

There are always a few eyebrow-raising looks on awards-show red carpets — after all, stars have to stand out somehow. That said, Stacy Martin's avant-garde attire at the 2025 Oscars took the cake with its striking resemblance to a certain household object. We adored the delicate, plunging neckline and spaghetti straps on Martin's lacy black-and-white gown, but we still did several double-takes at its unusual lower half. It's true: Martin's gown would make a fabulous lampshade, and we honestly wished she'd incorporated some illuminated accents beneath its fabric to really drive the look home.

Keleigh Sperry played it way too safe

While Keleigh Sperry's flowing, blue dress would likely steal the show at a baby shower or prom, we can't say the same about its impact on the Oscars' red carpet. Playing it safe is practically a sin during awards-show season, and Sperry's demure, dusk-blue design was objectively yawn-worthy. The jeweled floral appliqué on her hip gave her gown some much-needed sparkle, but it wasn't nearly enough to spare her from Glam's worst-dressed list.

Whoopi Goldberg's liquid-look dress didn't impress

At times, it pays off to take a fashion risk or two, but regrettably for Whoopi Goldberg, the 2025 Oscars wasn't one of those times. There's definitely a touch of "wow" factor in the fabric of Whoopi's liquid-look dress, yet we weren't as enchanted by its boxy details. With its tight-draped shoulders and full, shimmering skirt, we couldn't shake the thought that Goldberg's gown looked like a remarkably well-wrapped Christmas gift.

Penélope Cruz couldn't manage to make bridal white work

From a distance, Penélope Cruz's bright, white gown didn't look that offensive, but upon closer inspection, it's easy to see why she had to be on our worst-dressed list. There are several puzzling features found in Cruz's bridal-inspired 'fit — the most egregious, in our opinion, being those limply draped peplum hip flaps. But by far, our least favorite design detail was the row of sparkling studs tacked down her bodice, which inexplicably ended at her navel.

Lily-Rose Depp lost us with this low-cut lace design

Lily-Rose Depp is known for her bold sense of style, but her low-cut black gown worn to the 2025 Oscars was a rare red-carpet misstep from the accomplished actor. Though Depp's soft, blond tresses were styled gorgeously, with flouncy curls falling over her shoulders, her lace mermaid dress was far from a serve. With its random assortment of ruffles and rhinestones, Depp's hip-hugging ensemble looked like a clearance-rack cast-off from Rainbow Shops' prom collection.

Emily Kassie came up short in a red, satin maxi dress

While rosettes are the shape of the season each spring (and you can even get the look with a scarf), they failed to spare Emily Kassie from our worst-dressed list. Her sweeping red dress may have matched the carpet at the 2025 Oscars, but the brightly colored gown seemed to be wearing her, rather than the other way around. Kassie's gorgeous hair and makeup felt overpowered by her costumey attire, which suffered from excessive swaths of satin fabric and poorly tailored details.

Pauline Chalamet wore a lackluster LBD

Pauline Chalamet stole our hearts in "The Sex Lives of College Girls," but we can't say the same about her 2025 Oscars look. Her little black dress may have looked divine in real life, though the camera's flash hardly captured much of its appeal. Between her drab LBD moment, casually styled tresses, and abject lack of bling, we were bored to tears by Chalamet's fashion at the 97th Oscars. Don't get us wrong: There are ways to casually style your favorite little black dress, but this wasn't it.
