5 Celebs Who Look Totally Different Without Fillers
It's no secret that celebrities turn to plastic surgery and noninvasive procedures to make minor — or major — tweaks to their faces. After all, looking youthful is a goal many stars aspire to achieve. Along with Botox, laser treatments, and chemical peels, injectable fillers are popular among the Hollywood crowd. They can add volume to certain areas of the face in a subtle way and even change the shape of your nose and chin.
"Celebrities typically receive filler through a Facial Balancing approach. Where not just one specific area is treated but the face is treated globally so everything remains in harmony," Chris Bustamante, DNP, NP-C, the founder of Lushful Aesthetics, exclusively explains to Glam. "This is the ideal plan for those seeking a natural yet highly impactful enhancement that highlights all of the individual's key features while optimizing other areas that may need improvement."
Unfortunately, not all celebrities go the natural route, and it's obvious that they got work done when looking at their "before" photos. For some, dramatically altering their features even hurt their careers, and there's a reason we don't see our fave stars anymore. What's more, a few have actually dissolved their fillers, which further showed just how different these famous faces look with and without them.
Courteney Cox stepped away from fillers after going overboard
Courteney Cox, best known for "Friends" and the "Scream" film series, is another Hollywood star who once chased the fountain of youth. The actor's face hardly changed during her time playing Monica Gellar for 10 years, but around 2014, Cox's face began to look unnaturally puffy, particularly around her cheeks. And while many stars deny getting plastic surgery, Cox admitted to New Beauty in 2017 that she had not only gotten fillers but also way too much of them — that is, until a friend told her to put a halt on any more injectables. "I've had all my fillers dissolved. I'm as natural as I can be," she told the outlet. "I feel better because I look like myself. I think that I now look more like the person that I was."
Cox also opened up about her experience on the "Gloss Angeles" podcast in July 2023. "You don't realize that you look a little off, so then you keep doing more because you look normal to yourself and you look in the mirror and go, 'Oh, that looks good.' You don't realize what it looks like to the outside person," she revealed. Now, she's happy with the way she looks, and we love to see it.
Kylie Jenner built a beauty empire around her lip fillers
Kylie Jenner grew up in front of everyone's eyes on her family's reality show, "Keeping Up with the Kardashians," from 2007 to 2021. When the show first started, she was just 10 years old, but several years later, there was speculation that she started getting fillers when her lips began to look drastically fuller. In a 2015 episode, Jenner finally admitted to plumping up her pout with injectables, telling the cameras (via ABC News), "I have temporary lip fillers, it's just an insecurity of mine and it's what I wanted to do." She added, "I'm just not ready to talk to reporters about my lips yet because everyone always picks us apart."
Since then, Jenner hasn't gone back to her thinner lips, and she's even capitalized on her look by launching her eponymous Lip Kit in 2015, which featured a liquid lipstick and matching liner. Her brand soon exploded, and Jenner is now worth about $710 million. Kylie Jenner, who looks stunning without makeup, is absolutely unapologetic about her plastic surgery choice, telling Homme Girls, "Yeah, I love full lips and wanted full lips, but growing up I was always the most confident person in the room. I was the girl performing for everyone. I had my one lip insecurity thing, so I got lip filler, and it was the best thing I've ever done. I don't regret it."
Blac Chyna documented her plastic surgery reversal
If you've ever wondered why everyone's dissolving their fillers, look no further than Blac Chyna. The rapper has a pretty distinct face, and she's said in the past that it's been enhanced by plastic surgery. In March 2023, she told her Instagram followers that she was on the way to her doctor's office to remove the fillers in her cheeks and jawline. "Enough is enough. It all has to come out," she declared. The model revealed that the reason she wanted them dissolved was because she didn't feel like herself anymore. "It changed my face and I'm just ready to get back to Angela. Blac Chyna's Blac Chyna and I feel like I've outgrown that," she told the doctor.
According to Chris Bustamante, filler results depend on how much filler is used, as well as the technique. "Some patients opt for more of an augmentation that gives them a more altered appearance, while others go for more subtle enhancements or a simple restoration approach. All are valid in my opinion when done tastefully and artistically," he exclusively tells Glam.
As for Blac Chyna, it took several procedures to dissolve her dermal fillers, but in April 2023, she shared on "NewsNation" that it was all worth it. "I feel lighter, I feel happier, I feel more confident. Like, more confident than ever," she stated. The mom of two revealed that the doctor had removed 1,250 CCs of fillers and cautioned the audience to be wary of injectables. "It's really not worth it," the "Doom" rapper said.
Kim Zolciak's lips keep getting bigger and bigger
Since Kim Zolciak graced the small screen as a cast member of "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" in 2008, her face has undergone a never-ending evolution. Rocking big, blond hair and face full of makeup, the reality star has never been known for her natural look. Rather, she's played up her big persona, and over the years, her lips have gotten larger as well. "I've done my lips. I've been getting Botox since I was young, for migraines initially and now it's the obvious reason," she admitted to ET in 2016.
As shared on Instagram, a throwback picture of Zolciak in the hospital after giving birth to her daughter, Brielle Biermann, shows her lips pre-filler, and they were significantly thinner than her present pout. "You looked better after giving birth [than] you do now with WAY to [sic] many botox and fillers," one user wrote. Despite the critics, Zolciak loves her fillers too much to ever go without them, even during the COVID-19 pandemic. "[The doctor] did my Botox and touched up my lips a little bit," she told Bravo host Andy Cohen on "Watch What Happens Live" in 2020 (via E! News). She revealed that Brielle also got fillers on her lips at the time. Like mother, like daughter, it seems.
Meg Ryan's cheeks are a lot fuller compared to her '90s days
Meg Ryan was America's sweetheart in the '80s and '90s, with so many rom-coms featuring the blond beauty. Fans can thank her for making "When Harry Met Sally" and "Sleepless in Seattle" classics, as she captivated viewers with her tousled hair, striking blue eyes, and infectious smile. Ryan had the typical girl-next-door look with a movie-star quality, but fans started noticing a change in her appearance during the early 2000s, with her cheeks looking a lot fuller than before. Rumors swirled again in 2023 when folks accused her of getting more fillers. Basically, although she's never confirmed that she's received fillers, many suspect that the actor has plumped up her face on more than one occasion.
In a 2023 interview with Glamour, the "What Happens Later" star hit back on claims that she looks drastically different, stating, "I can't pay attention to it. I just can't. It's not worth it. Of course that would hurt someone's feelings, but there are so many more interesting things to think about. Meanness and hatred are just so stupid." Fillers or not, Ryan is still one of Hollywood's most recognizable faces to this day.
