These Celebs Never Miss With Their Signature Style
Some celebrities are total chameleons who constantly switch up their style. For example, you never know what makeup look Lady Gaga will come out wearing or if Katy Perry will show up with black, blond, or rainbow-colored hair. And then there are stars who have a signature style and stick with it. When you think of Anna Wintour, her iconic bob, which she's apparently had since she was a teen, immediately comes to mind. In a 2019 episode of "Go Ask Anna," the Vogue editor-in-chief explained, "I've had many hairdressers over the years, and I can't remember how long I've had this haircut for. The one time I tried to change it, it was a disaster. I had to wear a hat for several months. So I'm way too anxious and too lazy to try it again." Hey, if it works for her, why bother switching things up?
Naturally, plenty of celebs have taken a page out of Wintour's book and live by the motto, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." It's these easily recognizable features that make certain stars iconic, and whether it's their hair or a certain way of dressing, our favorite famous faces have certainly nailed their signature looks.
Ariana Grande is rarely seen without her high ponytail
Ariana Grande has had a stunning style transformation since she rose to fame on Nickelodeon's "Victorious" with striking red hair. During Grande's time on the show, she was forced to maintain the color, but she switched things up in 2012 when she went back to her darker roots. The "Side to Side" singer became known for wearing her hair in a half or high ponytail reminiscent of the '80s and '90s. In 2014, Grande explained the reasoning for her signature 'do in a Facebook post, writing, "I had to bleach my hair and dye it red every other week for the first 4 years of playing Cat ... as one would assume, that completely destroyed my hair." She continued to tell fans that, despite giving her hair a break by going brown again, the breakage from dying her hair all those years made wearing it down look bad. "So as annoying as it is for y'all to have to look at the same hairstyle all the time, it's all that works for now," the two-time Grammy winner continued.
We don't know why fans would ever complain about seeing Grande in a high ponytail, but now, they've come to expect her to rock one — and her styling of it isn't one-note, either. She's worn her pony with playful braids woven in and even occasionally added some fringe. These days, Grande wears her hair on the shorter side with wispy baby bangs while she's in character as Glinda from "Wicked." With the second part still set to release in November 2025, we're sure fans will be seeing Grande's current style for some time.
Diane Keaton in the queen of menswear
Diana Keaton is a sartorial icon, but not in the overtly glamorous bombshell way that many of her fellow actors are. In 1977, she starred in "Annie Hall," and her character of the same name clothed herself in wide-legged trousers, button-down shirts, and neckties. Keaton explained in her memoir, "Then Again," that the wardrobe was her choice, writing, "I did what Woody said: I wore what I wanted to wear, or, rather, I stole what I wanted to wear from cool-looking women on the streets of New York. Annie's khaki pants, vests, and tie came from them" (via The Hollywood Reporter).
Keaton consequently adopted this style, and ever since, she's been known for her power suits, which are often accessorized with a bowler hat. Her clothes are never boring, either. The "Book Club" star loves a bold, plaid look and plays with dramatic coats in various lengths. In an interview with The Gloss, she so eloquently explained, "A coat is perfection. It is like a cellar. I am hidden. I can relax in a coat, which is a blessing for a person like me who tends to be anxious and worried most of the time," adding, "A coat gives me the opportunity to make my own decision about how my waist will look. I lock myself in with a nice big belt." No matter what year it is, Keaton's menswear look will never go out of style.
Zooey Deschanel is unrecognizable without her bangs
If there's one thing Zooey Deschanel is known for, it's her blunt bangs, which she totally embraced with her thick hair. The "New Girl" actor pretty much always sports fringe, with her telling Glamour in 2013 that she never looked back after a stylist cut her bangs when she was 2 years old. "I've tried growing out my bangs a few times, but it's never stuck. They've been styled into all sorts of shapes and lengths. Now I'm very specific about how they look and feel," she told the outlet.
Deschanel is so known for her signature bangs that when she shared a selfie on Instagram without them in 2021, fans could not believe their eyes. "Someone said that you do not look the same without your iconic bangs. You definitely don't. I would have never guessed that was you. Gorgeous either way," one commented. Deschanel's fiancé, "Property Brothers" star Jonathan Scott, told People years later, "When we first started dating, I remember you had taken a picture with no bangs and then there was a scandal online. People were like, 'Who is this?'" The mom of two then joked that getting rid of her bangs would make the perfect "CIA cover," which we have to agree with, as she looked like a completely different person without them.
Brooke Shields is the original inspiration for thick, fluffy brows
Since breaking out as a young star in the late '70s and early '80s, Brooke Shields' beauty has only been emphasized by her gorgeous thick brows, which she's maintained throughout her whole career. Even when the thin brows of the '90s were trending, the "Mother of the Bride" star always kept hers full and fluffy. "Don't let anybody do anything to them because it's a trend. Keep them as natural as you can," she told The Zoe Report in May 2024. Shields joked, "It was a personal affront, the skinny eyebrow trend. I took it very personally, went to legislation over it."
Sadly, Shields revealed to People in January earlier that year that she was losing hair in her eyebrows. "They're thinner, they're graying, the whole thing," she lamented. The actor attempted to remedy them cosmetically, which she later regretted, stating, "I tried dying them once, and it was a huge mistake because they were so dark." Still, Shields' brows are recognizable all over the world, and she told Allure that a brow enhancer is the answer to keeping them healthy and full. Her current go-to? The GrandeBROW Brow Enhancing. Shania Twain always looks purr-fect in leopard print
Anyone who's a fan of Shania Twain knows just how much she loves a good leopard print. The country singer has been wearing the feline pattern since the beginning of her career, making it her signature style. "When I first started shooting music videos at the very beginning of my career, I would gravitate to all the leopard print options on the rack during the styling process. I just felt like it was the no-fail neutral that I could wear with anything. You can dress it up, you can dress it down," she shared with Elle in 2022.
Twain's leopard-print outfit in the "That Don't Impress Me Much" music video is arguably her most iconic look, but she's not ready to put down the print anytime soon. In 2020, she shared a sneak peek of "Legends Never Die" on Instagram in which she donned a jumpsuit reminiscent of her outfit in her hit video from 1997. More recently, she recreated the look for the 2022 People's Choice Awards with a hooded headpiece and scarf with a sheer, black bodice. Leopard print and Twain definitely go hand in hand.
Jamie Lee Curtis' pixie is perfect on her
Jamie Lee Curtis has rocked short hair for most of her career, and her pixie makes her instantly recognizable as the "Halloween" star. It perfectly suits her face and brings out her bone structure, giving her a sporty yet feminine appeal. In a 2021 interview on "Lorraine," she described the moment she adopted the pixie cut, revealing, "Very early on in my career, I had a perm and then had to dye my hair for a movie, and it burned my hair off my head. And the first time I cut my hair short, I went, 'Oh, oh, my God. Oh wow, I look like me.' Since then, I also stopped dyeing it."
Curtis has been known for her salt-and-pepper hair for quite some time, but she stunned with her snow-white 'do at the 2019 Golden Globes. Her pixie was cut longer on the top, and she wore it pulled back away from her face. Her understated makeup added just the right amount of glow to her face, and suffice it to say, we love when celebs embrace their natural beauty.
Taylor Swift's red lips have become her go-to look
It's rare that fans see Taylor Swift out and about without her signature lipstick shade — bright red — whether she's on the red carpet or caught having dinner with her squad. The "Love Story" singer began wearing this crimson shade in 2009 when celebrity makeup artist Gucci Westman introduced her to it for the cover of Allure. "I remember I really wanted to do a red lip on her because I hadn't seen her in a red lip before and her mom, if I'm allowed to say this, was like, 'Well, Taylor doesn't wear red," Westman explained on "Today." She recalled asking Swift's mom if they could just try it out, and it's safe to say that the pop star clearly fell in love with the color.
Over the years, Swift has worn many different variations of red lipstick, with some on the cool side to others veering more orange. For Swifties who want a true red like the one the pop star wore in her "Bejeweled" music video, makeup artist Pat McGrath revealed in an October 2022 Instagram post that she used the LiquiLUST Legendary Wear Matte Lipstick in the shade ELSON 4 from her eponymous line on the singer. Moreover, Swift's longtime makeup artist, Lorrie Turk, has shared in her Instagram stories that the "Bad Blood" singer also loves NARS' Air Matte Lip Color in the shade Morocco, which is a more cinnamon hue. Ultimately, we've seen Swift with a nude or pink lip before, but we think she looks the fiercest in her signature red lips.
