The Worst-Dressed Attendees At The Trump Inauguration

President Donald Trump's January 20 inauguration was moved inside because of the cold weather, which sadly means the public sadly missed out on a repeat of Bernie Sanders' viral mitten meme from 2021. With the event taking place in the Capitol Rotunda, though, we were able to get a better look at everyone's outfits. While there were plenty of well-dressed guests, some of the outfit choices were, well, a choice we might not have made ourselves.

The inauguration of the 47th POTUS brought together powerful politicians from both sides of the aisle. While the Trump family has had its fair share of bad looks in 2024, it turns out that questionable fashion choices and fits are bipartisan. Beauty is, as always, in the eye of the beholder, but there were some not so great looks spotted at the momentous event — and social media roasted them accordingly. Here's our list of the most offensively attired people at the inauguration.

Melania Trump looks like she's going to a funeral

Melania Trump's look as she arrived with Donald Trump at St. John's Episcopal Church before the inauguration almost made it seem as though she was in mourning. She wore a deep navy — nearly black — coat and a matching hat with a white band. The outfit had about the same amount of black that Melania wore to Jimmy Carter's funeral; that dress had a large white collar with the image of two people kissing on it. The dark ensemble seemed to send an image of somber seriousness as compared to one of celebration of any kind. She also wore her hat low, hiding her eyes. For someone who values her privacy (Melania has been known for skipping Donald's public events) this makes sense. In contrast, Melania wore a pale blue outfit to the 2017 inauguration.

People on X (formerly known as Twitter) noticed Melania's look and had jokes. One said, "Melania Trump STUNS in Hamburgler inspired outfit" while another quipped, "Is it just me.... or is Melania trying to imply that Trump is a 'smooth criminal' with this outfit choice?"

Jill Biden's monochrome look didn't impress

Jill Biden's inaugural outfit was a stark contrast to Melania Trump's, but we're not sure it's that much better. Jill wore an all purple outfit, which some think was intended as a nod towards bipartisanship. From her hat to her gloves to her coat and dress, though, it was a lot lot of purple. While her inauguration ensemble is hardly of Jill's most inappropriate outfits, her vibrant look certainly left her open to some pretty harsh criticism on social media.

One person online said, "Jill Biden's outfit makes her look like Barney." Someone else compared her to Willy Wonka. And another said, "Jill Biden needs to fire her fashion advisor." The monochrome look just proved to be a bit too much.

Lauren Sánchez is slammed for seeming to forget a shirt

Lauren Sánchez has been known for her inappropriate outfits, and her inauguration day look is no exception. She's engaged to Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos, who also showed up for the inauguration, and she chose to wear a white suit jacket with what looks like just undergarments underneath. Our guess is that it's a bustier or a top of some kind, not actually just lingerie, but this isn't really the occasion where you want to leave people guessing as to whether or not you're wearing a shirt.

People did not like her choice. A critic on X wrote, "Goes to show money can't buy you class...just really expensive La Perla bras to wear to an inauguration for all to see." Another said: "Who was the person who okayed Lauren Sanchez' inauguration outfit? You did NOT understand the assignment."

One person joked on X about how Sánchez could get a shirt, "Maybe she can get one from Amazon same day shipping," while one summed up what seemed to be the prevailing opinion on X, "Lauren Sanchez is soo trashy."

John Fetterman's casual look went too far

John Fetterman, Democratic senator from Pennsylvania, has long been known for his casual looks, often seen wearing shorts and t-shirts. He chose to do so again for Donald Trump's second inauguration. He showed up wearing a black Carhartt hoodie, gray shorts, and sneakers. The look was very much on brand for him, but very much off putting for the rest of us. He looked like he was going to the gym, not a prestigious political event. He has worn a suit before, so we can't imagine why he didn't think this occasion was worthy of one.

Some seem to think that it could be Fetterman protesting, in a way, the election of Trump. Others just think that it's a weak choice. One person wrote on X, "John Fetterman looks like a tee ball coach." Another said that it looked like he'd "rolled right out of bed," and others thought he was dressing like a teenager. We have to agree.

JD Vance was called out for his bright red tie and eyeliner

JD Vance, the new vice president, took a page from Donald Trump's style playbook with his overly long red tie. Surprisingly, Trump is not wearing his signature red tie for inauguration day, but instead a more muted red and blue tie, seemingly a signal of coming together and bipartisanship. Is Vance trying to suck up to/emulate his boss? It's the same look that Donald Trump Jr. has gone for; maybe Vance and Don Jr.'s friendship now extends to sharing fashion ideas? It definitely seems like an homage to Trump.

People came after Vance's look on X, focused on his bright, long tie. One said: "jd vance is such a f****** eyesore with that fugly a** tie. not classy at all." Another wrote: "JD Vance oddly wearing a red tie now. It doesn't work dude."

Others came after Vance's inauguration day look with the common question as to whether or not he wears eyeliner. "Someone please tell JD Vance we stopped putting eyeliner on our water lines years ago," one critic wrote. Another said: "JD vance fresh from an ulta makeover i see. girl they f***** you up with that eyeliner! wayyy too smoky for a daytime inauguration! go get ur money back!"
