Hair Colors We'll See Everywhere In 2025
As the new year approaches, many are probably thinking about upcoming trends, especially when it comes to their hair. Last year, we predicted the hair color trends that would be everywhere in 2024, and this time, we've tapped an expert to give us the scoop for 2025. Maria McCool, hairstylist, salon owner, and founder of Calista, exclusively tells Glam, "Warm and rich tones are on the rise. Ginger spice, mahogany, cherry red, dark espresso, and Barbie blonde are a departure from the ash blondes and mushroom browns of years past."
What are the biggest perks, you might ask? "With these colors, you get dimension in a way that feels perfectly blended — one color just melts into a lighter or a darker shade. An excellent colorist will effortlessly weave in those lighter tones with zero stark contrast," McCool explains.
While these hues are flattering on almost everybody, McCool suggests consulting with your colorist before you make any big changes. After all, McCool adds that a good stylist will tailor the hair dye to your skin tone and undertones, as well as your eye color. "Warmer tones can work on most people when done with the right amount of precision. Maybe a balayage or some highlights would suit you more than a full color change — it all comes down to what you and your colorist think is best," McCool explains. Now that we know what's in for 2025, you're probably dying to know which colors to leave behind in 2024 — and we've got you covered there, too.
Hair colors that won't be trendy in 2025
We saw a lot of icy-blond and dark-brunette hair colors in 2024, but hairstylist Maria McCool informs us that those shades will officially be out in 2025. And if you were a fan of the cherry-cola red hair that took over spring and summer 2024, you may want to tone it down. "Really any super unnatural or stark shades of color will feel out of date and won't jive with the new trend of natural blending and eye-catching color combinations," McCool exclusively tells us.
Instead of going for something stark and jarring like fiery red, try a more natural-looking auburn shade. Or, get the most luxurious chocolate hair with the liquid brunette trend that will have your tresses glistening in the sunlight. As McCool concludes, "When it comes to hair in 2025, the main thing we should leave in the past is the fear of change! New Year, New Hair!" That's a New Year's resolution we're totally on board with.
