Violet Affleck Is Growing Up Fast

In a true blink-and-you-miss-it fashion, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner's firstborn daughter, Violet Affleck, is all grown up. Ever since she was born on December 1, 2005, the daughter of the since-separated couple has been kept out of the spotlight — and even 19 years later, not much has changed. In fact, Violet has made it clear since she was a toddler that she doesn't crave the spotlight. 

"Violet's hyper-articulate — she is Ben Affleck's daughter," Garner revealed to The Hollywood Reporter while reminiscing about Violet's kindergarten days. Speaking about her family's experience being marauded by cameras at every turn, Garner added, "And [Violet] stood up on a chair in a little velvet dress, with her hair a bit back and her glasses on and she didn't say her R's right, and she said: 'We didn't ask for this. We don't want these cameras, they're scary. The men are scary, they knock each other over and it's hard to feel like a kid when you're being chased.'"

Even though Violet tends to keep her life private, we do get to see glimpses of her every now and then, and thanks to those, we can tell that the former Hollywood baby is now a confident young woman.

In August 2024, Violet Affleck headed to college, which, for her, meant moving across the country from Los Angeles, California, to New Haven, Connecticut, to attend Yale University. "It's, of course, a huge deal for the whole family, and they've all been so excited the last few weeks," an insider told People at the time. While it's still unknown what classes Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner's daughter is taking, she seems to be happy with her choices.

Of course, her parents couldn't be prouder of her. In May 2024, Garner posted a series of images on Instagram in which she's seen crying at her daughter's high school graduation. "Tell me you have a graduate without telling me you have a graduate," the "Elektra" actor captioned the post. Fellow Hollywood star Reese Witherspoon then commented, "Oh honey ... I know... You have done a great job, mama! I will be here for support and lots of hugs." While it seems like Violet was a tween only yesterday, the young adult is now clearly ready for a new and exciting chapter of her life.

There's no denying that Violet Affleck is the spitting image of her mother, and it certainly seems as if the young lady has taken a page or two out of Jennifer Garner's fashion book, too. Just like Garner, Affleck prefers simple yet elegant pieces, which she usually combines with classic accessories and simple hair and makeup. 

However, this doesn't mean Affleck is afraid of changing things up. In fact, some have noticed that the college freshman also looks up to her father's ex-wife, Jennifer Lopez. And anyone who knows anything about J.Lo's fashion knows the star isn't afraid of taking risks, which makes us excited to see what the future holds for Affleck. For now, it seems as if Lopez, who is still close to her ex-husband's daughter, is letting Affleck borrow clothes from her, as the teen was spotted in August 2024 wearing a pink Dolce & Gabbana dress that J.Lo wore out to dinner for Valentine's Day 2023. 

"Wearing her soon-to-be former stepmom's Valentine's Day dress was a bit of a statement," a source told the Daily Mail. "She knew what she was doing. Those close to her thought it was bizarre," they added. However, we all know that Jennifer Lopez has had plenty of iconic fashion moments, including her green Grammys dress, so we can't blame Violet for looking up to her sense of style.

That they have a voice that matters is something Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck taught their children early on, and at a Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors meeting in July 2024, Violet Affleck used her voice to bring attention to the lack of free testing and masks that can help prevent the spread of COVID-19. In fact, Violet revealed that she herself has been struggling with health problems. "I contracted a post-viral condition in 2019," she explained in the meeting. "I'm okay now, but I saw first-hand that medicine does not always have answers to the consequences of even minor viruses." Opening up about the post-viral condition helped everyone understand why Violet is usually seen wearing a face mask.

The then-18-year-old stressed the importance of actively fighting the spreading of the virus, which can lead to a swathe of health consequences. "One in 10 infections leads to long Covid, which is a devastating neurological and cardiovascular illness that can take away people's ability to work, see, move and even think," she told everyone in attendance. "To confront the long Covid crisis, I demand mask availability, air filtration and far-UVC lights in government facilities, including jails and detention centers, and mask mandates in county medical facilities."

How many teens can say that they've attended a state dinner? Well, Violet Affleck can mark that off her bucket list, as the now-19-year-old attended a state dinner at the White House in 2022, which just so happened to be on her 17th birthday. Affleck attended the dinner hosted by President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden with her mother, Jennifer Garner.

For the occasion, the mother-daughter duo opted to go for classic and sleek glam in black dresses. While Garner went for a minimalistic boat-neck dress, Affleck decided to add some age-appropriate fun to her look with a subtle V-neckline and a delicate leopard print that was perfectly subtle thanks to the dress' dark color and different textures.

While Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez's relationship had quite a few red flags, fans across the globe were sad to see the iconic early aughts couple part ways again in 2024. Both stars have children from previous marriages, and judging from the fact that Violet Affleck still seems to be close to J.Lo, it's safe to say that the kids weren't a reason why the famous couple split.

However, the fact that Violet still nurtures her relationship with Lopez — and even hangs out with her sister, Lynda Lopez — is proof that the teen is growing up. In fact, as a source revealed to the Daily Mail in August 2024, Violet was a huge fan of her father's relationship with the "Dance Again" singer. "Violet does wish her dad Ben would stay with J.Lo," the insider revealed. "She wasn't living in their house and did not see the extent of the breakdown, but she got extremely close to J.Lo over the past couple of years and it broke her heart when they split." In fact, another source told the outlet that part of the reason Violet is so close to Lopez is because she's close to her kids, too. "Violet is a daddy's girl and a family first person and is best friends with JLo's kids," the source said. "She considers them her sister and brother." Ultimately, even though Ben and Jen parted ways, Violet seems adamant about keeping her relationship with the Lopez family alive, and it doesn't get much more grown up than that.
