The Trump Family's Worst Looks Of 2024

The women of the Trump clan have no trouble drawing attention to themselves, whether it's through their politics, social media posts, or their sometimes questionable style choices. Even though there may not be many who are looking to the Trump women for fashion inspiration, it's no secret that the Trumps often use their outfits to make big statements, like that infamous "I really don't care, do u?" jacket that Melania Trump wore on the way to visit a migrant child detention center (which she later admitted was, in fact, a statement and not just a jacket). However, we have to ask, do all of their fashion statements need to be made? This question seems especially important when it comes to Kimberly Guilfoyle, girlfriend of Donald Trump Jr., whose love of miniskirts, sequins, and deeply plunging necklines seems more than a little out of place in the conservative political sphere.

Not to be outdone, Lara Trump, wife of Eric Trump, has had her share of unfortunate fashion moments and has, more than once, worn some looks that were more like optical illusions than eye-catching fashion. The usually stylish Ivanka Trump has also drawn attention to herself through her less-than-stellar fashion choices, often confidently showing off styles on her Instagram that don't quite hit the mark. While their outfit choices aren't always necessarily awful, they've still had plenty of fashion failures that are hard to ignore. From tacky prints and over-the-top cuts and colors to drab outfits with no attention to detail, the Trump women have had more than a few unfortunate fashion moments worth looking at throughout 2024.

Ivanka Trump mixed metallics and looked totally inelegant

While it might be trendy to mix your metals when it comes to jewelry, Ivanka Trump was mixing metallics within the same dress and going about it in a totally untrendy way. Wearing a gown that looked more like a Halloween costume than a formal outfit, Ivanka seemed to achieve some all-time high levels of tackiness when she was apparently going for sophistication. To make matters worse, the way she accessorized her outfit and styled her hair didn't do anything to add cohesion or balance to the look. Her large chandelier earrings were just more glitz added to an already over-the-top glitzy look, and her low, fluffed-out ponytail felt completely out of place.

Of course, there are plenty of ways to rock metallics without looking over the top, à la Ivanka Trump. If you're not super confident with metallics, going for minimal pops of gold, silver, or copper can be a better way to start. Mixing your metallics with neutral colors is another simple way to keep the style balanced and grounded. This way, you can also ensure that your metallic piece, whether it's a top, a skirt, or an accessory, is the focal point and not a point of distraction. Despite the overall gaudiness of the look, Ivanka does at least get some credit for embracing Indian culture and donning a sari, even if it could have been executed more elegantly.

Melania Trump wore a baggy gray suit on election night

There's no doubt about it: No matter who you're rooting for, election night is a big night. All eyes are on the presidential candidates and their families. However, of all evenings, this is the one where Melania Trump chose to show up in one of her most unexciting looks to date: an oversized, gray midi-length skirt suit. Even though Melania usually looks polished and put-together, she seemed a little off-kilter in this look. Not only was it a boring style, but it appeared to be at least one size too big.

A skirt suit is a trendy alternative to buttoned-up workwear. However, Melania Trump found a way to subtract all excitement or trendiness from this look. Combined with the drab color, the lack of accessories or styling really put all the focus on her bland wool skirt suit. Something else that was oddly surprising about this look is that it's a total 180 from many of her other typical dress choices, which often involve highlighter-bright greens, pinks, and purples, as well as bold florals. To be fair, though, it may not always be easy to find the most stunning look when many of the largest fashion houses refuse to dress you, as they do for Melania Trump.

Kimberly Guilfoyle looked out of place in shoulder pads and a busy print

Kimberly Guilfoyle really knows how to put together an eye-catching look. Whether or not it's catching attention for the right reasons is a completely different matter. While in London for the Trump campaign, Guilfoyle donned a minidress with a lot going on. Not only did the short, long-sleeved dress have some sizeable shoulder pads, but the super-intricate black-and-white print was also truly distracting. Paired with some large earrings and white pumps, it looked more like an outfit to wear to the club instead of one fit for taking care of campaigning duties. At the very least, though, Guilfoyle did keep the color palette minimal and focused on black and white, as adding any extra elements to this look would have easily taken it to a whole new level of tackiness.

That said, there are still plenty of patterns out there that are modern, fresh, and classy. Tasteful stripes and polka dots are great classic options. Simple harlequin motifs have also been big in 2024, as have zig-zag patterns, graphic florals, and wavy lines with an organic feel to them. Unfortunately, Guilfoyle didn't opt for any of those and instead chose a super-busy geometric print that would have looked a lot less out of place about 10 years ago.

Lara Trump wore oversized and odd shapes

For many, Easter is a time of celebrating and connecting with family. For Lara Trump, though, it seems it was also a time to make sure all eyes were on her and her oddly shaped dress. Even though the little white dress was the fashion trend to have on your radar for spring 2024, Lara Trump's look missed the mark. Her white Easter dress featured a large, three-dimensional rosette-shaped piece that covered the whole front bodice. Even though some edgy fashionistas might be able to pull something like this off, it truly overwhelmed Lara Trump's frame and drew too much attention to itself. The only benefit of this, though, is that it may have helped draw some of the attention away from the creases and wrinkles that covered her skirt.

Along with being too much, this dress was also bland at the same time. Of course, she might have decided to go easy on the accessories to put focus on her huge rosette, but the reality is that by not adding even some simple jewelry or accessories, the overall effect was a super-basic look. Even if the dress itself was not a winner, a feminine cardigan or some delicate jewelry could have at the very least added some depth and softness to this strange outfit.

Kimberly Guilfoyle did not understand the assignment at a Mar-A-Largo event

By now, it's pretty clear that Kimberly Guilfoyle has established a pattern of wearing clothes that aren't quite suited for the event she's attending. However, the look that she donned for the Abraham Hamadeh fundraising event at Mar-A-Largo may have been her worst offense yet. Even though she gave a speech at the event, most of the attention was on her shocking outfit. The headline-grabbing black minidress featured a plunging cutout with see-through chainmail at the neckline and another large cutout with chainmail that started at the hem of her dress and went up to her hip. While the dress might have made sense at a club or informal party, in a formal setting, the super-revealing dress was out of place and really drew the wrong kind of attention to Guilfoyle.

Typically, with such a daring look, a lack of accessories would be a good choice. With this outfit, though, the minimal jewelry kept all of the focus on Guilfoyle in a way that just wasn't working. Adding something else to the style could have given it a more subtle or chic feel and potentially created an interesting, if inappropriate, look. Another thing that didn't work was her gold platform sandals, which felt uncoordinated and just gave the whole style an even more disjointed feel. Her makeup didn't help in this situation, either. Her super-smokey eyeshadow was too bold for her already bold outfit, and her glossy nude lip, instead of creating balance, only added to the overdone vibe of the whole look.

Ivanka Trump clashed by mixing patterns with lace

It seems that while vacationing in Utah, Ivanka Trump was going for a laid-back but eclectic look. While that may have been what she was aiming for, she unfortunately missed the mark. Not only did it give off the vibe that she was trying too hard, but she mixed patterns and lace in a way that clashed instead of coordinating. She accessorized the look, which was somehow both busy and boring, with a large tan belt to cinch in her waist and some tall tan cowboy boots. Even though she was likely going for mismatched vibes, the fashion trend that makes your outfits more interesting, she inadvertently went in the wrong direction. The matchy-matchy accessories only further added to the feeling of trying too hard and failed to bring a sense of balance or true interesting style to her Western-inspired look.

That said, even the best of us may struggle with building the right mismatched look, which is why it can be a great idea to start small when beginning to change up your style. By keeping all of your different prints in the same color family or by using the same pattern, just in different colors or sizes, you can start to build an eclectic outfit without feeling overwhelmed. In Ivanka Trump's case, getting more playful with her accessorizes could have given the outfit some edge. Adding interesting necklaces or opting for slouchy black boots over tan ones could have brought some freshness to the stale style.

Melania Trump got a bit too bold with her prints

Melania Trump, who often wears solid-colored styles, showed up at a Florida fundraiser in a baggy jumpsuit with a distracting floral print. It appears that Melania was stepping outside of her comfort zone with this look. Unfortunately, she would have been better off sticking with some of her more tried-and-true styles. Not only did the jumpsuit not seem to be fitted to her properly, but the overall outfit looked very out of place on her. The large print featuring tropical-looking flowers started at the bottom hem of her jumpsuit and climbed all the way to her hip, creating an odd visual cut-off that was truly distracting. Not only that, but the additional print on the sleeves and on the belt only added to the busy, overdone look.

Of course, styling a jumpsuit can seem difficult, especially in a more formal situation. Doing things like making sure the fit and length of the jumpsuit are tailored to you is important for any jumpsuit style, but it matters in particular when you're wearing it to a formal event, since the fit is key to looking polished and put-together, as opposed to frumpy or awkward (which may not be as big of a deal when you're just running errands in your favorite comfy jumpsuit). In Melania's case, it seems that she didn't get the memo.

At the very least, Melania gets some credit for keeping her accessories minimal, as any kind of attention-grabbing accessory would truly have been too much for this look. Some simple earrings and an updo were also good moves and helped create some sense of balance with the large, eye-sore print.

Lara Trump wore some jarring black-and-white stripes

Whether or not Lara Trump was trying to create a headache-inducing optical illusion with this dress is unknown, but what is known is that these kinds of stripes were definitely not on trend in 2024. Black-and-white stripes can be a great staple to have in your wardrobe and have the potential to be seriously elegant, especially if you're going for polished and put-together French-girl vibes. Not only are stripes classic, but they've also been trending in fall 2024, especially when worn on oversized sweaters or knit vests and layered with button-ups or jackets. There are also plenty of wardrobe pieces that pair perfectly with striped pants to create a chic look.

What Lara Trump is doing with this style is a far, far cry from any stripe-related trend, past or present. Not only has she found a way to mix both a vertical stripe and a horizontal stripe, which is no easy feat, but the overall look is confusing. The only thing we can give her credit for is keeping her accessories and jewelry minimal. After all, adding anything else to this look would have been over-the-top overwhelming — well, more than it already was.

Kimberly Guilfoyle looked dated in all-white lace

It seems that Kimberly Guilfoyle is a woman of extremes when it comes to expressing her style. From inappropriate levels of cleavage at a Mar-A-Largo event to grandma-esque lace and pearls, there doesn't seem to be any middle ground when it comes to the styles she chooses. In an Instagram post about a fundraising event for the Trump campaign, Guilfoyle wore a lacy white dress which she paired with an oversized pearl necklace and large pearl earrings. While the frilly dress with flower-shaped buttons might have given off doily vibes, it still had a low neckline and showed off more décolleté than what might have been appropriate for a conservative campaign post.

Another miss: Guilfoyle certainly was not wearing one of the best makeup looks to pair with a white dress. When wearing an all-white look, the makeup you choose can have a huge impact on how the whole style comes together, going for light, glowy makeup can create a youthful, fresh vibe. Opting for light eye makeup and a bold red lip is another great option when wearing a white dress. Guilfoyle, however, went heavy-handed on the makeup with a smokey eye and super-glossed lips, which ended up clashing rather than creating any kind of cohesion.

Lara Trump wore an over-the-top foil skirt

It's no secret that metallics are absolutely in style — and have been for a few years now. That said, it's important to exercise some restraint when it comes to trying out new trends. While Lara Trump gets some points for opting for a chic midi-length skirt, everything else about the look is highly questionable. The bright green (yellow?) skirt is overwhelming enough on its own. And while accessories are the simplest way to indulge in the shiny trend, by pairing the metallic skirt with a gold purse and gold bracelets, Lara Trump was truly going too hard with her shiny accessories. The white cropped tank she paired it with does seem like it should have created some balance, but in all reality, it just looked out of place and only added to the chaotic vibe of the outfit. Some unfortunate creasing also detracted from the style, making it look sloppy on top of everything else.

Even though Lara Trump is the main offender here, birthday girl Kimberly Guilfoyle certainly gets an honorable mention for the hot-pink-sequin minidress she donned for her party. Not only was the tube dress made of super-large, flashy sequins, but by pairing it with large silver earrings and heels, it truly looked like Guilfoyle was, once again, ready to hit the club in 2010.
