Everyone's Talking About This Rising Country Star And Her Bold Fashion Choices
Rising country star Tanner Adell is quickly carving out a niche for herself. On top of being featured on Beyoncé's "Cowboy Carter" album, providing harmonies for a cover of The Beatles' classic "Blackbird, Adell is attracting audiences to her catalog of original songs, including on this year's "Twisters" soundtrack. So far, the "Buckle Bunny" singer has racked up nearly 1.5 million monthly listeners on Spotify, more than 729,000 followers on TikTok, and over 672,000 followers on Instagram.
Naturally, a lot of this can be attributed to the artist's niche musical stylings — Adell's country twang stands out by adopting overtones of pop and hip-hop, crossing genres to grab listeners. However, music isn't Adell's only claim to fame. Like some other larger-than-life performers (Katy Perry and Chappell Roan spring to mind), Tanner Adell is also drawing attention with her daring fashion. "If I could raid someone's closet, I would choose Effie Trinket from 'The Hunger Games'," Adell revealed to NOTION, smiling at her own quirky taste. "I know she got some bomb wigs in there."
Eye-popping styles have long accompanied the country-music scene, from 2024's voluminous Texas hair trend to the countless bedazzled garments that have accompanied country icon Reba McEntire 50-year style transformation. But it seems that there are still new depths to plumb, and Adell is determined to explore them. "I think country music, and especially country-western fashion, is having a moment right now," she added to NOTION. "This is how I've dressed my whole life." From denim corsets to prize-winning bra tops, Adell is establishing her style in the public eye by playing with classic country iconography in new, unexpected configurations.
Tanner Adell gravitates toward flirty statement pieces
It's difficult to adequately explain our growing obsession with Tanner Adell's seemingly endless supply of surprising, country-fueled looks. Whether she's rocking cheeky cow-print co-ords on-stage at Austin City Limits or flaunting a daring amalgamation of white fringe and intricate pearl beadwork on the red carpet of the People's Choice Country Awards, Adell seems to revel in outfits that come out of left field. No one look is quite like another, but there is a through-line: Adell favors fashion that is fun, thematic, and unmissable.
Even at New York Fashion Week, where plenty of ensembles vied for attention, Adell's aesthetic turned heads and drew press coverage. Topping camel bell bottoms with a figure-emphasizing denim corset, she was the essence of country-chic. And in an August 2024 Instagram post, Adell showed off an even cheekier take on denim corsetry. The boned and zippered dark-wash corset was playfully paired with elbow gloves, a pastel cowboy hat, and tiny white bloomers trimmed in eyelet lace. "Glam alert. ...You are a brand and you glow," wrote one commenter, while countless others drooled over Adell's lavender cowboy hat.
Hands down, though, one of our favorite Adell looks thus far has to be the flower halter dress she wore to perform in London in September 2024. Note that it was a flower dress, not a floral dress — this was no basic ditsy print. Tanner Adell stepped out literally covered in the delicate lavender petals of a fabric bloom that spanned her entire torso and dipped into a draped miniskirt. Flirty and feminine, it was a memorable piece that wowed the crowd and reflected Adell's taste to a T. As one commenter praised the look on Instagram, "Obsessed with your outfit."
Tanner Adell is heavily involved in her own styling
The higher Tanner Adell's star rises, the more she'll probably start getting offers from designers and being dressed by professional stylists. Already, she's attracted partnerships from major brands like Levi. For now, though, it seems like the "Whiskey Blues" singer still has a lot of creative control over her looks, both on and off the stage — and is even making some of her own concert ensembles.
"I made a top out of my mom's old competition ribbons," Adell confessed on Instagram, unveiling the perfectly pink getup she wore to perform at the Ridin' Hearts Festival in Sydney, Australia, this November. We don't know what the competition was, but Adell and her mother both won it — the flouncy, provocative ribbon bra served up all the charm of a country fair, especially with its accompanying pink petticoat. "Favorite top I've made so far," Tanner added in the caption, and the star's followers seemed to agree. "That is so pretty and special. ...What a great way to honor your mom," one wrote on the post. Another added, "Your creativity is unmatched!"
Apparently, Adell's DIY wardrobe started from a young age, when she'd reach for rhinestones to make her hand-me-downs from her older brothers cuter. Now, the singer has an entire craft room dedicated to her projects, and she gives followers the occasional peek inside. In one TikTok video, Adell proves that she knows how to style a corset top for any occasion, deftly re-covering one of her denim corsets with a frog-and-mushroom-printed T-shirt. In another TikTok video, she builds an entire beaded bralette from scratch. It seems like the sky's the limit here — with so much practical skill underpinning Adell's creative and unpredictable flair, only time will tell what genre-bending fashions she'll come out with next. One thing's for sure, though: We can't wait to find out.
