The Most Inappropriate Celebrity Outfits Of 2024

Another year has nearly come and gone, and with it, some truly wild fashion choices — we're more than ready to bid farewell to 2024's worst style trends. Worse yet, even some of our favorite celebrities made terrible missteps on the red carpet this year. So, while we'd love to say that judging 2024's worst ensembles was a challenge, it was actually harder to narrow it down. From the worst-dressed celebs at the Paris Olympics to the worst looks at the 2024 Tony Awards, the past 12 months have offered up plenty of sartorially questionable candidates.

To be fair, many people landed on these round-ups by playing it safe. A boring LBD isn't always enough to save you from fashion critiques, especially at a high-profile event. However, other stars earned glaring side-eyes thanks to looks that were inappropriate to the theme, the venue, or general human consumption. As 2024 draws to a close, we're looking back at some of these (unfortunately) memorable garments and why they flopped so hard.

Rita Ora's feathered gown was a textural nightmare

Rita Ora wore not one but 10 different looks to host the 2024 MTV European Music Awards, including a feathered monstrosity that could generously be called "high concept" but was probably the most horrifying look of the year. The feathers, which were piece-y and stuck out at odd angles, more closely resembled hair — a deeply disturbing vibe. Had Ora skinned a muppet? Was the entire dress pulled out of her shower drain? We are big fans of the "For You" singer, but everything in this ensemble was wrong, wrong, wrong.

Priscilla Block's bodysuit had an unfortunate focal point

When "Good on You" singer Priscilla Block stepped out for the 2024 People's Choice Country Awards, she decided to make a playful statement in a white mesh bodysuit. But as anyone who's ever worn mesh knows, this see-through material can bunch awkwardly around the seams. This turned into a worst-case scenario for Block, as her bodysuit featured a prominent seam that ran from her belt straight down to her crotch — not exactly the focal point that most celebs want to highlight on the red carpet. It also stinted the outfit's silhouette, which ultimately landed it on our list.

Billie Eilish made a mockery of red-carpet fashion

We love that Billie Eilish pushes back against conventional and sexualized fashion norms, and the "Bad Guy" singer's style is certainly never boring. However, her frumpy and oversized ensemble at the 2024 Golden Globes landed like a joke on the award show's usually chic red carpet. While Eilish might have gotten away with the intentionally ridiculous fit and the plain color palette of this Willy Chavarria set for a Fashion Week event, she stood out like a sore thumb among the Globes' other, more elegantly dressed guests.

Zoe Saldaña's Met Gala look was basic and off-theme

With 2024's inspiring Met Gala theme of "The Garden of Time," there were a lot of possible looks and ideas for guests to play with. However, "Star Trek" actor Zoe Saldaña chose a disappointingly simple style with no thematic point of view. While the perfectly pretty taupe chiffon Chloe dress didn't rank among the worst outfits in Met Gala history, it also didn't push any boundaries. Plus, the blatantly branded belt was an off-putting bit of walking advertisement at an event that celebrates the avant-garde.

Teyana Taylor's festival 'fit was badly accessorized

Festival fashion is known to be whimsical and over-the-top, and performer Teyana Taylor didn't pull her punches at Coachella this year. Sadly, the look didn't come together or represent summer's beloved, bohemian festival vibes. The "Wake Up Love" singer started cohesively with a sheer blue overdress and distressed denim boots — pieces we weren't wild about but at least made sense together. Inexplicably, though, Taylor topped this muted foundation with a bright-red bandana and white, ill-fitting cowboy hat, which drew all eyes upward and away from her outfit.

Eva Green's daring dress was too edgy for Cannes

Eva Green's imaginative, stained-glass-like Iris van Herpen dress at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival had a great concept. However, the eccentric silhouette fought itself below the knee, and we'd argue that Green wore this creative gown to the wrong venue. Cannes is a classic event that attracts similarly classic couture, leaving Green's out-there dress turning heads for all the wrong reasons. The "Casino Royale" star, who we sadly named one of the worst-dressed celebrities of 2024, should have debuted this look somewhere like the Met Gala, where experimental fashion is the rule of the day.

Chanel West Coast's VMA look was a metallic mishmash

Let's be honest: There were a lot of worst-dressed celebs at the MTV 2024 Video Music Awards. Still, we can't overlook the dreadful, DIY sci-fi bustier flaunted by rapper and TV personality Chanel West Coast. Like a space-age showgirl, the star combined her metallic skirt with sheer tights and heels — none of which felt at home with the barely there, safety-pinned bodice or its heart-shaped nipple plates.
