Red Flags In Zoë Kravitz And Channing Tatum's Relationship

Celebrity love stories can be hard to watch. While a few stand the test of time, many quickly crash and burn. Sometimes, this parade of failed relationships gets downright depressing — after all, if the old adage that "opposites attract" couldn't even save J.Lo and Ben Affleck, what chance does anyone else have? But then there are the famous couples that restore our hope, like the partnership between actors Zoë Kravitz and Channing Tatum, who seem to have it all.

It's a colleagues-to-lovers tale straight out of a romance novel: In January 2021, Kravitz and Tatum met on the set of Kravitz's directorial debut, "Blink Twice." Kravitz soon admitted that she'd written Tatum's character with him in mind, and the pair clearly held each other in high regard. By August of that year, they were spotted getting coffee and sharing a bike ride. The rest was history: museum dates, the Met Gala, meeting the families, and plenty of PDA that confirmed their involvement.

A few years have passed since that early romance, and in October 2023, Tatum proposed to Kravitz with an impressive $550,000 ring. Now that they're engaged, we'd like to believe that Kravitz and Tatum have permanently settled in together — but we've been burned before. It seems that even solid celeb duos have challenges to overcome, so what obstacles should we be tracking for these two? For more insight, Glam spoke exclusively to Jaime Bronstein, licensed relationship therapist and author of "MAN*ifesting: A Step-By-Step Guide to Attracting the Love That's Meant for You." Drawing upon current observations and her years of experience, Bronstein warned us about five red flags that could be brewing for these lovebirds.

Zoë Kravitz and Channing Tatum have to weather intense media attention

Right now, the relationship between Channing Tatum and Zoë Kravitz may seem like a fairy tale, but if there's one thing we know about celebrity couples, it's that they face an uphill battle. On top of all the normal negotiations and pitfalls of partnership, A-listers like Kravitz and Tatum have to contend with the stresses of visibility, speculation, and the ever-churning rumor mill.

As Jaime Bronstein exclusively explains to Glam, "Zoë Kravitz and Channing Tatum seem to always be under public and media scrutiny, which can put major pressure on the relationship. A couple that is always in the spotlight can amplify issues and create additional stress and anxiety, leading to challenges in communication and especially trust."

In 2022, an anonymous source told People, "They were getting a lot of attention when they first stepped out together last summer. They seemed uncomfortable with the attention." Giving this weight, Kravitz herself revealed some difficulty with navigating a relationship in the public eye. During a 2022 interview with GQ, the "Big Little Lies" actor said, "You want to keep it sacred and private as long as you can ... so that you don't have to even think about what the world thinks about it." Alas, it's probably hard to avoid external opinions now that the cat's out of the bag. As time goes on, both Tatum and Kravitz will need to drown out the constant media buzz to mitigate this red flag and protect their peace.

Channing Tatum and Zoë Kravitz both have relationship baggage

Romance can be messy, and many of us have lingering hang-ups or drama from past relationships. Celebrities like Channing Tatum and Zoë Kravitz are no exception — on the contrary, life in the spotlight can make your dating history even harder to shake off. "Both Zoë and Channing have had high-profile relationships in the past, which could potentially bring unresolved emotional baggage into their current relationship," Jaime Bronstein exclusively tells Glam. "The effects of these previous relationships, particularly if trust issues or insecurities haven't been fully processed, can often interfere with new relationships."

Pre-Tatum, Kravitz's most notable beau was her four-year relationship and eventual marriage to actor Karl Glusman, which dissolved after only 18 months of matrimony (and spawned one of Hollywood's most iconic revenge dresses). "It really is less about him and more about me learning how to ask myself questions about who I am and still learning who I am," Kravitz later told Elle. Hopefully, she's answered those questions, and similar uncertainties won't derail her current romance.

Meanwhile, Tatum's most relevant ex is certainly fellow actor Jenna Dewan. After connecting on the set of "Step Up" in 2006, Tatum and Dewan married in 2009 and welcomed a daughter in 2013. Ultimately, though, they separated in 2018. "I think we told ourselves a story when we were young, and we just kept telling ourselves that story, no matter how blatantly life was telling us that we were so different," Tatum reflected to Vanity Fair in 2023. Fingers crossed that Tatum isn't telling a new, similarly sugar-coated story to Kravitz. Complicating matters further, he and Dewan had a long legal battle over finances, meaning their divorce was only finalized in September 2024, three years into Tatum's relationship with Kravitz. Awkward.

Zoë Kravitz and Channing Tatum have to manage the challenges of a blended family

If relationship baggage weren't tricky enough, many modern families also have to navigate the logistic and emotional complexities of combining multiple households. In the case of Channing Tatum and Zoë Kravitz, this includes making space for Tatum's daughter, Everly. "Channing Tatum has a daughter from his previous marriage with Jenna Dewan, and managing co-parenting dynamics while navigating a relationship could be challenging," Jaime Bronstein exclusively cautions Glam.

Talking to Romper about co-parenting with Tatum, Dewan said, "It's always a journey. ... It never ends. You just learn as you go and get better at certain things." That said, the protracted timeline of their divorce probably didn't make things easier as Tatum and Dewan tried to raise their child and introduce new partners into the equation. As Bronstein points out, "Channing and Jenna's divorce was a six-year process, which couldn't have been easy on Channing and Zoë's relationship."

At least Kravitz seems to get along with young Everly, as an inside source reportedly told People in April 2024 that the two have "bonded." Only time will tell whether this closeness strengthens or weakens the bond between Kravitz and Everly's doting father. As Tatum told Vanity Fair, "When you're actually parents, ... you really understand differences between the two of you. Because it is screaming at you all day long. How you parent differently, how you look at the world, how you go through the world."

Channing Tatum and Zoë Kravitz may struggle to connect with their busy, conflicting schedules

If there's anything that strains celeb couples even more than constant scrutiny, it could only be the busy, jet-setting lifestyle that goes along with fame. Unfortunately, this is a hurdle that could easily impact Channing Tatum and Zoë Kravitz. "Both Zoë and Channing are highly successful actors with demanding careers, which likely require a lot of travel and time apart," Jaime Bronstein exclusively tells Glam. "Long-distance or frequent absences can strain the relationship, making it challenging to nurture emotional closeness. The potential for differing priorities (career vs. relationship) is also a factor that can create relationship issues."

Quality time is crucial in budding relationships, but scheduling conflicts already seemed to be impacting Kravitz and Tatum as early as 2022. Speaking to People, an inside source suggested that the duo had to make an effort to see each other with their "packed schedules." Moreover, the responsibilities of parenthood add an extra layer of logistical complexity. "Channing spends a lot of time in L.A. because of his daughter," the insider said. "Zoë ... has been doing most of the traveling." That sort of accommodation is all well and good during the honeymoon phase, but putting in equal effort will be crucial to ensuring the relationship continues to flourish.

Zoë Kravitz and Channing Tatum seem to have a few big lifestyle differences

Life throws external obstacles at every relationship. However, when it comes to going the distance, one of the biggest deciding factors may be the internal dynamic of a romance — in other words, how well two lives can integrate and become one. This makes complementary lifestyles a critical factor for everyone, including Channing Tatum and Zoë Kravitz. "Although it seems Zoë and Channing have similar lifestyles and share creative and professional worlds, differences in lifestyle preferences or priorities can cause issues in the relationship," Jaime Bronstein exclusively warns Glam. "Zoe appears to be more introverted and more of a homebody. Channing seems to be the life of the party and thrives on attention. This mismatch can lead to disagreements over how they spend their time and energy together."

True enough, a 2022 clip from the Wall Street Journal shows Kravitz admitting, "I have severe social anxiety." Speaking with The Guardian the same year, she said, "There have been times where I'm, like, 'I'm not going to leave my house today,' because I don't feel emotionally capable of protecting myself energetically from that."

As for Tatum, personality-based social media platform Boo World claims that the "Magic Mike" actor's Myers-Briggs personality type is ESTP — an extroverted "entrepreneur" archetype prone to fearless decision-making and a bubbly social life. Whether or not this is strictly accurate, Tatum certainly has a way of charming fans and interviewers, suggesting that he's pretty comfortable in public. In the best-case scenario, his sociability will make him an ideal partner for the more self-conscious Kravitz, letting him take the brunt of public attention. But handled poorly, this lifestyle mismatch could also lead to friction — a red flag the duo should work to avoid.
