We Wore Taylor Swift's Signature Lipstick For A Week & Here's What Happened

Taylor Swift is known to rock a fierce red lip, but every now and then, she switches up her look. And when she does, fans everywhere clamor to learn what new products she's using (and then sell out said products more swiftly than one can say "Don't Blame Me"). Case in point, the "Fortnight" singer wowed at the 2024 MTV VMAs in a plaid, Christian Dior ensemble, but her punk-rock look wasn't all that Swifties noticed. Her lips were a more muted and burnt-orange shade than usual, and since then, her longtime makeup artist, Lorrie Turk, revealed that the lipstick in question was NARS' Air Matte Liquid Lipstick in the shade Morocco. "She's worn it for years," she shared on her Instagram Stories (via E! News).

As a makeup artist with more than a decade of professional experience, I knew I had to give this newly viral shade a try. By the time I scoured the internet for the lipstick, it was sold out at most places, but luckily, I was able to get my hands on it. It comes in a tube with a doe-foot applicator like a gloss, but the consistency is creamy. Upon application, I found that it had a smooth, matte finish, and I immediately felt like my face card had leveled up. I was curious to see what would happen if I wore this shade every day for a week, and I can safely say that NARS' Morocco shade will be part of my permanent lipstick rotation.

As someone who typically only wears lipstick during a night out, it felt strange at first to go about my day with a full lippie on. However, a benefit of applying NARS' Morocco Air Matte Lip Color was that my lips were moisturized throughout the day. Because it's a liquid lipstick, not the traditional type, it provides hydration in lieu of a lip balm. I loved that the doe-foot wand gave me a precise application, meaning no lip liner was needed. The color applied beautifully and didn't spread or bleed around the outline of my lips, which can happen with gloss. One coat was enough for a pop of color, but if you want a stronger finish, I suggest blotting once and then applying a second layer.

After the first application, I noticed that my skin looked a bit washed out against the cinnamon shade. That was easily remedied with a bit of bronzer and some peach blush up top. Naturally, that meant I had to finish the rest of my face, so I filled in my brows and added a swipe of mascara. This continued for the rest of the week, and it wasn't a strain on my time schedule, as the right tools and some intuitive makeup organization can make getting ready faster a breeze. 

It actually felt nice to glam myself up a bit during the week, even if it was just to the supermarket, giving me an extra pep in my step. While nobody commented specifically on my lipstick shade, I received compliments like, "You look nice today!" If you're eager to try NARS' Morocco shade, you won't regret it — it's an amazing color that'll look great on every skin tone, and it's perfect for fall. Ultimately, it's a win-win in my book.
