Red Flags In Gwen Stefani And Blake Shelton's Relationship From Our Matchmaker
When Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton got together after mentoring together on "The Voice" Season 7, they seemed like a match made in heaven. Sure, their music genres were complete opposites, with Shelton a country singer and Stefani more into pop and reggae, but they had more in common than they thought. In 2015, Stefani and Shelton went through very public splits with their respective partners. Fresh out of failed marriages, they both leaned on each other while working through the grieving process of divorce, and the two decided to give love another shot with each other.
Stefani and Shelton tied the knot in 2021, with the "Hollaback Girl" singer calling him her "dream come true" at his Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony in 2023. However, not everything has been flowers and rainbows between them. In fact, Susan Trombetti, matchmaker and CEO of Exclusive Matchmaking, sees a few red flags in their relationship. "They have been together for a while, and it's hard to escape the tabloid fodder, but every so often, they do have a shred of truth to them," she exclusively tells Glam of the rumors surrounding the couple. Although they maintain a united front for the public eye, several signs show that the honeymoon phase may be long over for Stefani and Shelton.
There are too many rumors surrounding Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton's marriage
Just two years after Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton's Oklahoma wedding, there were whispers that their marriage was on the rocks. "Times are tough for Gwen and Blake. They're spending a lot of time apart and the relationship is suffering. Friends are worried that if they don't address their problems before they spiral out of control, divorce might be in the cards for them," a source told OK! in July 2023.
Later that year, Stefani and Shelton spent a major holiday apart due to work, which sent more tongues wagging. Susan Trombetti thinks these are major red flags that can't be ignored. "They could be just making something out of nothing when they were both apart on New Year's Eve working. But sometimes, where there's smoke, there is fire, as the old saying goes," she exclusively tells Glam.
Trombetti also points out that Shelton's failed marriage with Miranda Lambert was highly talked about in the media — and the rumors that they were headed toward Splitsville turned out to be true. "It could be a coincidence, but usually, these rumors have at least a shred of truth to them," the relationship expert reasons.
Blake Shelton was rumored to have cheated before
Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert's divorce was incredibly messy, with cheating allegations running rampant on both sides. While nothing has been confirmed, Lambert's ex, Jeff Allen, said on X, formerly known as Twitter, and then deleted (via Us Weekly), "I know damn good and well you were cheating on your wife and Miranda was cheating on me when you two started up." Matchmaker Susan Trombetti exclusively tells Glam that if Shelton did, indeed, cheat on Lambert, there's a possibility that he could do it again.
However, Trombetti adds, "Who knows, though? Just because you cheated in the past doesn't mean you will do it again. But a player doesn't reform, and the rumor made it out like he was a serial cheater." With Stefani having been allegedly cheated on in the past by her ex-husband, Gavin Rossdale — with the nanny, no less — hopefully, she doesn't get her heart broken again.
Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton have previous failed marriages
With Blake Shelton's marriage to Gwen Stefani being his third, this isn't his first rodeo, and that's not always a good thing. The "Rich Girl" singer has also been married once before, and relationship expert Susan Trombetti thinks the multiple nuptials between both parties are another red flag. "Second marriages have a higher divorce rate due to children from the first marriage," she exclusively explains to us.
While Shelton doesn't have any kids from his previous two marriages, Stefani shares three kids with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale. "It's so hard to blend families and at this point, two of the boys are teenagers, so that's rough and it stresses a relationship," Trombetti explains. Meanwhile, Shelton said of step-parenting to ET, "I learned quickly, not because anything happened, but just, you know, reading the room, you've really got [to think], 'I have to take a step back.'" He also said that taking on Stefani's children has shifted his mindset, sharing, "When people say it's not about you anymore when you have a kid ... I think, if you're doing it right, it's not about you anymore. That's true."
Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton's busy schedules could come between them
Both Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton are booked and busy, which is great for their careers but not for their marriage. Matchmaker Susan Trombetti exclusively warns us, "Different projects and workloads taking them away from each other can impact the relationship. It did on New Year's, and it's said Blake was very upset about her not being with him." As reported by Life & Style, a source revealed that Stefani choosing to take a Las Vegas job on New Year's Eve over supporting her husband's gig caused some friction. "Gwen and Blake's marriage is definitely in trouble. Lately, they've been at odds about everything from career decisions and the parenting of her three boys to where they spend most of their time," the insider shared with the outlet.
What's more, Trombetti tells us that while spending time apart comes with the territory for celebrities, it's also one of the biggest sources of conflict in high-profile couples. "They miss being together and can be on opposite sides of the country. It's difficult to maintain a connection when work gets in the way," she explains.
Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton's relationship is very public
Having your life scrutinized by the public while single is hard enough, but as a couple, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton are sure to feel the added strain. Constantly being talked about in the media also doesn't help, relationship expert Susan Trombetti exclusively points out to Glam. "Plus they have friends feeding the tabloids; those anonymous sources make you feel like you can't trust anyone. This has to put pressure on a couple," she adds.
Trombetti also notes that Stefani consistently denies any whispers of trouble in her marriage to Shelton, which is what Miranda Lambert and the "Ol' Red" singer did before their split. In an interview with NYLON this April, the "Luxurious" singer insisted she and Shelton were just fine. "You can say whatever you want to say about our relationship — I mean, a week ago we were getting divorced again or something. It's just lies. The truth is the truth, and we know what that is," Stefani declared. In her expert opinion, Trombetti thinks that the two do make a great couple, but being forced to defend their relationship is bound to make cracks in Stefani and Shelton's marriage.
Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton lead different lifestyles
It's no secret that Blake Shelton enjoys a stiff drink — he's even admitted to sipping on some alcohol while on "The Voice." In fact, he's such a big fan of the bar scene that he created his show "Barmageddon" around drinking games. Matchmaker Susan Trombetti reveals exclusively to Glam that she thinks Shelton's partying ways could affect his marriage to Gwen Stefani, who leads a healthier lifestyle. "He is rumored to drink too much, and she allegedly doesn't like it," Trombetti tells us.
The country crooner even admitted in December 2023 that he wanted to drink less in the new year. "I haven't managed to stop drinking yet. That's been, you know, even cutting back has been hard. I mean, it's a resolution though. And I'll say it again right now — that my New Year's resolution is to either cut back or stop drinking altogether. Let's just say I said it," he told ET.
It looks like Shelton made good on his resolution, as a source told Life & Style this May that he's been eating healthier and drinking less beer. According to the insider, the "All About Tonight" singer's weight loss "improved" his and Stefani's "love life." While that's definitely a good motivator to stay fit, Trombetti notes that Shelton's brand revolves around drinking, so that could pose a problem for his long-term goals.
