Brittany Mahomes' Latest Game-Day Outfit Has Taylor Swift Fans Doing A Double-Take

Football season is here, and you know what that means: WAG fashion is back on our radar. WAGs — aka the wives and girlfriends of professional athletes like NFL players — have become style influencers in their own right, even giving rise to this year's WAG makeup trend. And without a doubt, one of the most visible and controversial NFL wives is Brittany Mahomes, spouse of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

One ongoing point of contention has been Brittany's fashion — and whether it's blatantly derivative of her new bestie, Taylor Swift. Brittany and Taylor became close when the latter famously started dating Travis Kelce, the Chiefs' tight end and Patrick's teammate. Brittany and Taylor have since entered some kind of fashion symbiosis, from rocking matching 'fits to lending each other clothes. Earlier this year, fans even speculated that Taylor let Brittany borrow her iconic TIME Magazine dress for a bachelorette party.

With all of this at play, it's hard to deny that Brittany's style changed after meeting Taylor, but does the transformation deserve side-eye? Some Swifties seem to think so, especially as we keep getting new evidence that Brittany's taking inspo from her famous friend. Case in point, she recently debuted a game-day ensemble that caught a lot of flak from die-hard Swifties.

Brittany Mahomes came to support her hubby in an oversized tee and statement boots

Brittany Mahomes makes it a point to dress up for every Chiefs game, so it was no surprise to see her step out in another eye-catching ensemble for the Chiefs vs. Falcons game in Atlanta, Georgia, on September 22. The ex-soccer star arrived to cheer on her husband in an oversized and bedazzled Kansas City Chiefs T-shirt from the official NFL store. This was paired with a pair of barely there black shorts, red cowboy boots from Feners, and a quilted Chanel purse.

On the one hand, it was a casual-yet-cute outfit that seemed eminently sensible for a sports event. The ensemble is also a comfortable pick for a mother-to-be, as Brittany is pregnant with her third child. While she and her husband haven't announced a due date, onlookers have hypothesized that Brittany is likely to give birth this December or next January. If accurate, this would have put her at around five or six months pregnant during the Chiefs-Falcons face-off, which is perfect timing for a relaxed T-shirt outfit.

On the other hand, certain eagle-eyed Swifties think that more is at play behind the look. Once photos of the 'fit hit social media, critics emerged in droves to accuse Brittany of once again mimicking Taylor Swift's aesthetic — a premise that they don't seem to take kindly.

Some fans think Brittany Mahomes is copying Taylor Swift's style too closely

They may say that imitation is the highest form of flattery, but online audiences weren't all impressed by the resemblance between Brittany Mahomes' sparkly T-shirt look and an outfit Taylor Swift wore the week prior. As one commenter replied to a photo posted on Instagram by Brittany's brother-in-law, Jackson Mahomes, "Wasn't Taylor Swift wearing pretty much [the] same concept outfit last week? ... [Kansas City] T-shirt and thigh-high boots." The comparison isn't totally off-base — Taylor attended the September 15 Chiefs-Bengals game in her own oversized Chiefs shirt, which she accented with thigh-high leather boots by Giuseppe Zanotti.

Other disgruntled Swifties took their complaints directly to Brittany herself, filling her Instagram comment section with shade. "Copying Taylor's fit. She needs a restraining order," wrote one disapproving fan. Another added, "Trying to dress like Taylor. The jealousy is real." Even well-meaning onlookers noticed the sartorial similarity, with one commenting, "Very cute! Copy of Taylor's look last week."

Overall, this may not have been one of Taylor and Brittany's best twinning style moments. That said, the NFL season is just getting started, so we'll likely witness more complementary ensembles at games to come — and perhaps more backlash from territorial Swifties online.
