Rebel Wilson's Complete Weight-Loss Transformation

Rebel Wilson was a well-known comedian and actor in her native country of Australia, but it wasn't until she starred in the hit 2011 comedy "Bridesmaids" that she became an international star. After several roles in other films, Wilson further showed off her comedic chops in the 2012 movie "Pitch Perfect" where she played a character named Fat Amy. It was clear that she had found a niche in the film industry and she shared with CBS News in 2024 that while the movie was pivotal to her career, she was pressured to look a certain way. "My agents were against [my] losing weight because they thought, 'Well, you've got such a pigeonhole that is such a valuable pigeonhole — being the fat, funny girl — so we don't really want you to lose that,'" Wilson revealed.

Well, like the rebel that she is, Wilson embarked on a weight-loss journey that defied what she had been told. It hasn't always been a smooth road but she kept at it and has lost almost 80 pounds since she started. And she didn't shed pounds just for aesthetics, either. The "Super Fun Night" star got serious about losing weight after she was told it would help her become a mom. Since then, along with her stunning style transformation, Wilson has gone through an amazing weight-loss transformation that will have you doing a double take.

2016: Rebel Wilson lost 8 pounds at a wellness retreat

Sometimes celebs need a little help to get started on their weight-loss journey and Rebel Wilson had no shame announcing her stay at The Ranch 4.0. "OMG just finished 4 fantastic days at #TheRanch4.0 ... so challenging but very rewarding! Not to mention I lost 8 pounds from marathon hiking over the 4 days!" she shared in a now-deleted Instagram post from April 2016 (via E! News). Besides the hikes, Wilson got to experience some self-care with a daily massage from the facility's in-house masseuses. Various online sources confirm that the retreat is pretty hardcore. Wilson endured four-hour hikes every morning and had to stick to a vegetarian diet that included vegan pizza and veggie burgers.

In January 2016, Wilson told E! News, "You don't want to be in that weird range of are you skinny or are you fat? Because how do you class yourself then?" The "How to Be Single" star added, "But for me, it's just about being comfortable in your own skin. You never want to be like too unhealthy because that's bad. But you just want to be comfortable with who you are, whatever your size."

2019: Rebel Wilson's role in Cats helped her lose weight

The year 2019 found Rebel Wilson in another music-themed movie: "Cats." She had a blast playing Jennyanydots while also losing weight without crash dieting, which is never a good idea. "I lost 8 pounds, shooting my number, in four days. One, because there's a lot of physicality ... but also, they heated up the set very high, to almost 100 Fahrenheit, so that we could never cool down," she revealed to ET. Wilson explained that the studio turned up the heat so that the professional dancers wouldn't strain their muscles. "So they'd heat up the set like a sauna so we would never cool down, but made it pretty uncomfortable," she stated.

That year, Wilson went on another retreat but this time at a medical spa in Austria. "Missing @vivamayraltaussee so much, but waking up this morning with gratitude, ready to crush this week ahead! Guys remember to feel beautiful because you are x it's not about how much you weigh, or certain features on your body — it's about being kind to yourself and loving yourself," she shared on Instagram in June. Whatever she was doing definitely worked, as Wilson looked slim at the December 2019 "Cats" premiere.

2020: Rebel Wilson is putting in the work to get fit

Rebel Wilson started 2020 with a bang and a resolution to keep on track with her weight-loss journey. Sharing pics of herself having a fun outdoor exercise sesh on the beach right after the New Year, she wrote in an Instagram post, "Okay so for me 2020 is going to be called 'The Year of Health' — so I put on the athleisure and went out for a walk, deliberately hydrating on the couch right now and trying to avoid the sugar and junk food which is going to be hard after the holidays I've just had but I'm going to do it! Who's with me in making some positive changes this year?" A fan replied, "You are inspiring me! I'm following your year of health for inspo! Thank you!"

Wilson put some time in at the gym as well. Later that month her trainer Jono Castano gave her props for working so hard. "Friday vibes but @rebelwilson has been putting in the yards 7 days a week! Proud of you gurl," he shared in an Instagram post. In the video, Wilson is seen going into beast mode with a pair of battle ropes. A fan wrote, "Damn ... Rebel looks great ... and always smiling. Love her!"

2022: Rebel Wilson reveals that motherhood inspired her to lose weight

Proving that she kept at her fitness goals, Rebel Wilson continued to slim down in 2022, and her reasons for getting fit went even deeper than just looking good. In an interview with People, the "Senior Year" actor revealed that she saw a doctor about freezing her eggs. "He looked me up and down and said, 'You'd do much better if you were healthier,'" she shared. After being shocked at his assessment, Wilson realized that he was right. "I was carrying around a lot of excess weight. It's almost like I didn't think of my own needs. I thought of a future child's needs that really inspired me to get healthier," she admitted.

Wilson's daughter Royce Lillian Elizabeth Wilson with her fiancée, Ramona Agruma, was born in November 2023 via surrogate. Being a new mom did cause her to gain some of the weight she lost but Wilson was able to surpass her 75-pound weight-loss goal, per the Daily Mail. "I am happy with the way I look now and I feel good about how far I have come but I would like to lose more so we'll see it's really hard with all the traveling I do," she shared.

2024-Present: Rebel Wilson continues to stun with her weight loss

After some ups and downs, Rebel Wilson was an inspiration to many when she showed off what looked like her slimmest bod yet in a September 12 Instagram post. Wilson admitted to using Ozempic for a small period just to keep the weight off. "Someone like me could have a bottomless appetite for sweets, so I think those drugs can be good," she stated to The Times. She added, "I feel strongly that young women shouldn't try to obsess over looking like Victoria's Secret models — they should just look like themselves." No matter what size she or anyone is, Wilson thinks a person's weight doesn't define them. "I think to many people I'm a beacon of body positivity because I see people who are considered medically obese if you look at their weight, but I think they are absolutely beautiful. I really think beauty is at any shape and size so I do really promote that," she told People.
