Reba McEntire's 2024 Emmys Wig Has Us Wondering What's Going On With Her Natural Hair
On Sunday, September 15, country-music queen Reba McEntire attended the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards, donning a patterned, emerald-green pantsuit and a sequined, silver top, which she adorned with a set of star-shaped lapel pins. The "I'm a Survivor" singer completed the look with a simple updo with choppy front bangs and several face-framing strands — and this is precisely where she lost us. While McEntire is known for her stunning style, her hairdo at the 2024 Emmys appeared hastily strung together. It's possible that this was a wig-gone-rogue sort of situation, as her bangs appeared to start miles back, which, in turn, made the length of her forehead seem never-ending.
Fans have long speculated about McEntire's use of wigs and extensions, and our hairstylist even commented on McEntire's 2024 ACM Awards wig during a previous chat with Glam. However, this recent wig slip-up has us concerned about the state of McEntire's iconic tresses. As such, Glam reached out to fashion/editorial hair and makeup artist Luna Viola to get down to the root of McEntire's wig issue. "Yes, Reba is known for wearing wigs and hair pieces," Viola confirms during an exclusive chat with Glam. Speaking on McEntire's Emmys look, she adds, "The extra volume at the top ... makes it look like she is wearing a double bang and the hair perfectly set." McEntire seems to love her wigs, but Viola reveals that there might be an important reason we're seeing more of these dramatic hairpieces.
Could Reba McEntire be experiencing a form of hair loss?
According to Luna Viola, a poorly placed hairpiece could be the cause of Reba McEntire's never-ending forehead at the 2024 Emmys. "It could have [been] pinned in a more natural way and flatter on the crown. Wigs tend to move around if not fixed properly," Viola shares exclusively with Glam. While it's surprising that neither McEntire nor her hairstylist caught the mistake before the singer made her red-carpet entrance, this was more than likely a simple case of human error. On the other hand, McEntire's misplaced bangs could be a sign of an underlying issue with her red locks. Given her age — the red-haired beauty is 69 years old — it wouldn't be too out of place to suggest that the artist could be struggling with age-related hair loss, per Viola. As with many people her age, McEntire could struggle with "[h]air thinning due to hormonal changes and stress ... " Viola tells Glam.
Regardless, it's impossible to not feel disappointed with McEntire's hairdo, as she could have easily avoided the blunder with a simple hairpiece swap. "I would opt for [clip-in] extensions instead and fill in any gaps with spray hair color to add fullness," Viola tells us. Ultimately, the "Fancy" singer can do no wrong in our eyes, but even this award-winning country icon isn't immune to a bad hair day every once in a while.
