The Worst-Dressed Celebs At The 2024 VMAs
It's been a dizzying year for music fans in terms of new releases, and there's never been a better time to tune into the MTV VMAs. Aside from the fierce competition amongst this year's nominees, Meghan Thee Stallion is hosting the awards ceremony for the very first time. At the 2024 VMAs, held at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, Moonman hopefuls include Beyoncé, Charli XCX, and Sabrina Carpenter. The evening's performances feature A-listers old and new, with Eminem returning to the stage and rising star Chappell Roan making her debut. Taylor Swift leads the 2024 VMAs with 12 nominations total, while Best New Artist nominees include Tyla, Gracie Abrams, and Chappell Roan.
But whether you're rooting for Chappell Roan or hoping Taylor Swift makes a clean sweep at this year's event, there's more to the 2024 VMAs than just the music. That's right — the VMAs are also the place to see and be seen when it comes to the hottest fashions, and there's rarely a dull moment on its red carpet. At the 2023 MTV VMAs, we saw Taylor Swift's hair enter its hot mess era, though there were plenty of contenders for our annual VMAs worst-dressed list. This year, guests like Halsey and Karol G looked red hot, while others left us searching for a crumb of style. So, brush that buttered popcorn aside and get set to scroll, because it's time for Glam's worst-dressed celebs at the 2024 VMAs.
Addison Rae
Somewhere between "Black Swan" and VIctoria's Secret Fashion Show, Addison Rae left us all mystified by her choice of attire at the 2024 MTV VMAs. The "Obsessed" singer and TikTok star turned up in a white satin lingerie set flanked by a massive cloud of tulle. Rae rounded the look out with tasteful white pumps and a sparkling barrette in her glossy highlighted hair, which may have been the best part of her look.
Dora Jar
Singer Dora Jar was another MTV VMAs guest whose outfit just didn't add up. The influence of 2000s streetwear was clearly on display, but the baggy khaki separates felt a little too casual for a red-carpet event. Jar's 2024 VMAs ensemble also included a Y2K-inspired updo and, for reasons unbeknownst to us, a large, outstretched umbrella. That said, Jar's makeup was super cute — and who knows, maybe she's hiding an outfit swap for later in those cargo pockets.
Eli Rallo
Author and creator Eli Rallo's fluffy fit won us over in the top half, but we weren't feeling the longer layers of her tiered skirt. The ex-theater kid from New Jersey resembled a modern-day Degas ballerina in her pink and white strapless gown, finishing the look with red nail polish and a slicked-back hairstyle.
Josie Canseco
For every Glam worst-dressed list, there has to be at least one boring little black dress. Model Josie Canseco took the honor of gracing this year's roundup in a rather forgettable micromini LBD with conical bra accents. The blonde beauty wore her fringed hair in a super straight style, pairing her dress with sheer black tights and sky-high patent platform heels.
Katy Perry
Next on our list is none other than Katy Perry. It hasn't exactly been her year, but we couldn't skip this monstrous outfit — sorry, Katycats. Indeed, Perry's shredded white gown was serving Spirit Halloween mummy costume rather than red-carpet finery. Adding insult to injury was the star's wet-look hair, which limply hung around her oiled-up shoulders.
Chanel West Coast
We love Chanel West Coast, but it isn't her first rodeo on Glam's worst-dressed list. Similar to Katy Perry's fit flop, West Coast wore a deconstructed white and silver garment with plenty of negative space. Her accessories, on the other hand, were kind of incredible — an oversized space-age bracelet, strappy silver heels, and a statement necklace? If only the outfit were quite as impressive!
Paris Hilton
Tired of the torn-up outfits at the 2024 VMAs so far? So are we! Although, we have to say that Paris Hilton's tribute to that last shredded piece of aluminum foil on the cardboard tube is our favorite of the bunch. The only problem? The "Simple Life" star's stringy wet look hair, which dragged down the rest of her lustrous look.
Jessie Murph
Country star Jessie Murph is relatively new on the music scene, though her VMAs ensemble feels like we've seen ages ago. Perhaps that's because we have. After all, the throwback style appears to be the perfect blend of Priscilla Presley and Lana Del Rey's style — well, sans pants, that is. Armed with a lollipop and cherry gloss lips, Murph may not have made the best-dressed list, but she did give us some inspiration for Valentine's Day date looks next year.
Ashley Keating
We've seen enough silver at the 2024 VMAs, so let's make room for some gold. For the most part, we're actually kind of digging pop powerhouse Ashley Keating's gilded get-up. However, it's the footwear that falls flat for us — patent black platforms just don't seem like the right choice in this sparkly situation. If Keating had worn some retro gold gladiators or stacked heels, she may have been spared a spot on the worst-dressed list.
Suki Waterhouse
Last but not least is the multitalented Suki Waterhouse. While we could appreciate the overall vision, Suki's Old Hollywood-inspired feathery black wrap didn't seem to sit right — literally. At times, the stuffy boa shielded the star's beautiful face, and its exaggerated silhouette gave her a stiff appearance. Waterhouse rarely misses with her fashion serves, so we were disappointed to see her wearing one of the worst MTV VMAs looks this year.
