Emily In Paris Looks That Completely Missed The Mark
If you haven't checked out the Netflix phenomenon "Emily in Paris" yet, what are you waiting for? The lighthearted television show starring Lily Collins just entered its fourth season, and there's never been a better time to binge-watch her escapades in the City of Love. Whether or not you've had the pleasure of exploring Paris in real life, the aesthetically pleasing series is a treat to tune into — and we're not just talking about the scrumptious footage of buttery French pastries, either. If you assumed "Emily in Paris" was all about the protagonist's idyllic life in Paris, well, that's where you're wrong. Despite the show's super romantic setting, Emily's personal life is positively filled with cringe-worthy setbacks.
From accidental boyfriend theft to nightmarish workplace debacles, there's no shortage of drama in "Emily in Paris." Still, many fans of the series watch the show just for Emily's French-girl style. Naturally, Emily's world in France's fashion capital is filled with highly covetable pieces, like luxury handbags, designer vintage, runway-worn gowns, and more. But for every très chic Courrèges jacket or Chanel bag that contributes to the Emilycore phenomenon, there are quite a few flops that manage to make it on-screen. And yes, even Lily Collins herself isn't immune to the occasional fashion faux pas in her starring role as Emily. So ditch the outfit envy, grab your favorite café treat, and let's dive into some of the worst outfits on "Emily in Paris" throughout the seasons.
A break from berets couldn't save this Season 1 look
If you've made it past Season 1 of "Emily in Paris," then you know Emily can't put down the classic French beret early on. While we admire Emily swapping the tired headwear out for a knit pink beanie in Season 1, Episode 8: "Family Affair," the snug cap throws her otherwise-cute outdoors look way off. Her fuzzy Essentiel Antwerp sweater is bold enough all on its own. If that weren't enough to raise an eyebrow, the clunky gold hoop earrings are yet another example of Emily's over-the-top taste in accessories.
This shoe-covered Moschino coat deserved the boot
"Emily in Paris" fans, let's face it: Emily's brief courtship with Mathieu Cadault (Charles Martins) was a match made in hell, and this awkward outfit from Season 1, Episode 10 (aptly titled "Cancel Couture") was among the first signs of trouble. For her romantic day out with Mathieu, Emily donned a wacky Moschino coat that gave us serious pause. Your shoe collection may be your pride and joy, but that doesn't mean you need to announce it on your outerwear, Em. And don't even get us started on the novelty print dress clashing underneath it.
Emily's pink-and-green getup from Season 2? Quelle horreur!
If we could label one "Emily in Paris" outfit as the worst, it would have to be this poisonous pink-and-green creation from Season 2, Episode 3. A wacky plaid cap and embellished Blumarine cardigan — complete with bright-pink fur trim — would be enough maximalism for one ensemble, but no. Emily has to tack on gauche striped bloomers, gold heels, and a bright-green Salvatore Ferragamo Trifolio Mini Bag. To make matters worse, she adds a pair of her signature leather driving gloves — which begs the question: Emily, when do you even drive?!
One too many layers weighed down this Season 3 look
Truthfully, Emily stepped her style game up significantly by Season 3 of "Emily in Paris." Yet, there were a handful of unforgivable outfit offenses, like this inexplicable look from Episode 3. There's entirely too much going on, from her bold cherry lips to her slashed red crop top. On top of that, our girl knows the building's elevator is broken, yet she wears a sweaty combo of suede thigh-high boots and a leather Louis Vuitton miniskirt to work. Still, this 'fit might have gotten a pass without the bulky blue motorcycle jacket.
Emily's dowdy pink blouse left us bored to tears
Just when we thought she'd made some progress, Emily took a giant step backward with this blouse and headscarf combo during a work meeting in Season 3, Episode 9: "Love Is in the Air." Later on in the show, there's some relief when she throws an enormous yellow coat over the ghastly pink Isabel Marant lace top — but she could have done herself a favor and refrained from wearing it in the first place.
Once again, Emily pushes the envelope with prints
In what may be one of the worst outfits on "Emily in Paris" to date, Emily wears an aggressively plaid look in Season 3, Episode 10 ("Charade") during a walk outside with Mindy. Now, Em certainly gets style points for sporting a budget-friendly black-and-white Zara jacket with this getup. However, the lofty sailor hat, houndstooth bag, and loud medley of head-to-toe prints didn't do her any favors. There's no shame in layering different pieces with similar prints, but something about Emily's tartan triad just doesn't gel.
This waxy designer dress felt out of place in Season 4
Any gardener can tell you that perennial blooms grow back bigger every year — and that might explain why Emily wears an oversized floral look from Balmain's spring/summer 2024 collection inEpisode 4 of Season 4. Lily Collins looks gorgeous as ever during this nightclub scene, but the plastic-petaled dress seems to wear her, rather than the other way around. So far, however, Season 4 seems off to a great start in terms of the star's wardrobe choices, so hats off to Emily for her impressive style evolution overall!
