Simone Biles' Post-Olympics Hairstyle Has Heads Turning

On August 5, American gymnast Simone Biles completed her final beam and floor routines at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, taking home three gold medals and one silver medal and making history as the most-decorated gymnast ever along the way. More specifically, Biles has earned a record-breaking 11 medals throughout her career, a feat impressive enough to turn a few heads. However, the triumphant Olympian also impressed fans after revealing her post-Olympics hairstyle, which she uploaded to her Instagram Story the day after her last competition.

Biles tagged celebrity hairstylist Brenton Diallo, the genius responsible for her long and glamorous waves, in her Story post. Diallo then reposted the selfie on his page, along with another photo that shows the pair posing together in the City of Love. The hairstylist's heartfelt caption reads, "What A Magical Morning! Reuniting With The GOAT! My Sis From Another Miss The Gorgeous and Incredibly Gifted @simonebiles ILY BB What An Honor It Is To Do Your Hair. We Go Back Now 8 Years Now And I Couldn't Be More Honored To Come Slay Your Hair When You're On Top Of The World." Biles reacted to Diallo's enthusiastic post by commenting, "[G]old medal stylist babyyyyy," to which Diallo responded, "[D]o you know how much I adore you!? BIG hugs."

"Woow you really did that," one Instagram user commented on Diallo's post, while another commented of the hairstyle, "Omg this is gold!!!" We couldn't agree more, and this positive reception is much-deserved, especially following some people's rude comments about her hair in the past.

Simone Biles' hair has always created buzz

As ridiculous as it sounds, Simone Biles' hair has long been a source of controversy. For instance, Biles' hairstyle became a divisive topic at the beginning of the 2024 Paris Olympics after she experienced a hair malfunction while competing on Sunday, July 28. "Simone Biles hair never being done properly be pissing me off. Everybody else on the team is put together, then she looks like she just rolled out of bed," one person posted on X, formerly Twitter.

The discourse didn't stop there, so Biles clapped back with a friendly reminder to refrain from making inappropriate comments about her hair. "Don't come for me about my hair," she captioned an Instagram Story. "IT WAS DONE but bus has NO AC & it's like 9,0000 degrees." In another Story, she added, "gonna hold your hand when I say this [kissy lips Emoji] next time you want to comment on a black girl's hair. JUST DON'T."

Biles experienced a similar incident last year when she received unsolicited comments about her wedding-day hairstyle. "Them edges should have been laid. It is her wedding day. This ain't regular hair day," one X user wrote. Biles responded to social media trolls in a conversation with Elle last month, saying, "Most of the backlash we get is from our own community, which is unfortunate. I don't really care if my edges aren't smooth." Biles' honesty, from her hair to trying Botox, is one thing we particularly adore about her.

Simone Biles doesn't let the comments faze her

Despite the haters, Simone Biles maintains her confidence. She's not afraid to go makeup-free or rock hair or fashion that fits her own taste, and many people are quick to defend the athlete for it online. For instance, one X user wrote, "Imagine being the kind of person who watches Simone Biles perform moves that no one else can do, twirl in the air multiple times and land on her two feet...only to comment on her hair! Imagine having that mentality?"

Moreover, Biles has stopped caring about how others perceive her and has learned to embrace her natural curls. "I'm finally learning to love my hair and the texture that I have and the styles that I can do," she told Elle. "I used to worry about [my hair being considered] not professional. But I'm not embarrassed about it anymore."

Biles further explained that no one taught her how to style her hair growing up, so she's always relied on stylists. However, she's enjoyed learning the ropes from Black influencers and business owners who post tutorials and helpful tips online. "We've been able to take care of our hair better and take care of our beauty routines better, because it's self-taught," Biles added to Elle. "It's really special that we have access to those platforms." As such, styling her hair during the 2024 Paris Games was likely a balancing act between practicality and self-expression, allowing gymnastics to remain her primary focus, as it should be for a gold medal-winning gymnast.
