Kylie Jenner's Tattoo Collection Is Full Of Tiny Tat Inspo
With a talent for being able to make anything look good, Kylie Jenner is naturally one of the biggest trend-setters of our generation. Whether she's showing us how to flatten our eyebrows with a simple hack or reaching billionaire status with her Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kits, the reality star has an undeniable impact on the beauty and fashion world. Now, we've made it our mission to replicate her teeny-tiny tattoos.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Glam, micro and fine-line tattoo artist Syd Smith, owner of SYZYGY Precision Tattooing, has revealed that it's exactly people like Kylie Jenner who have made tiny tattoos so popular. "Platforms like Instagram and Pinterest make them trendy, especially with celebrities and influencers showing them off," she explains. "Plus, a lot of people are into minimalistic styles that still let them express themselves without being too loud. They're typically quick to tattoo, which is great for clients who are new to the tattoo scene."
Jenner has a few fine-line tattoos in her collection so far, including a barely there red heart on the back of her left arm, and the digits "4:43" located close to her elbow. On her Instagram page, Smith highlights several examples of itsy-bitsy ink that would fit right in with Jenner's look, from blink-and-you-miss it artwork to meaningful numbers and names. Let's dive in for a little inspo!
Teeny-tiny barely there designs
Kylie Jenner debuted her red heart tattoo on Instagram in 2015. You can follow in her footsteps with a similarly small design, and it definitely doesn't have to be a heart. Celestial tattoos have always been popular, while bow tattoos are trending in 2024.
If you really want to emulate Jenner, choose colored ink. "Just keep in mind that colors can fade faster and might need more touch-ups compared to black ink ... " Syd Smith tells Glam exclusively.
Carry the most important names with you
Kylie Jenner has daughter Stormi's name tattooed on her arm — a look she shares with Stormi's dad Travis Scott. Along these lines, you could also ink an important name on your skin. Many people choose to tattoo the names of people they love, like children and siblings, but there's no reason why you can't tattoo another name that means something to you.
And who says the letters must amount to a name? "Words or short quotes, like 'love' or 'strength,' are also really popular," Syd Smith shares exclusively with Glam.
Go for angel numbers
One of Kylie Jenner's smallest tattoos is her "4:43" piece, which appears on the inside of her left arm and denotes the time of her daughter Stormi's birth. While Jenner went with an important date, you could design your numerals around angel numbers, like 111.
"I see a lot of simple designs like hearts and angel numbers," Syd Smith confirms. In our exclusive chat, she adds that as long as the numerals remain small, "they're less of a commitment in terms of pain and time, so they're great for those just testing the waters with body art."
Connect to nature with your ink
Prior to their January 2023 split, Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott occasionally aligned their tattoos. We saw this with Jenner's 2017 butterfly tattoo, which is inked near her ankle. If you're not a fan of butterflies specifically, you can still take a page out of the reality star's book by going for a nature-themed design, which Syd Smith confirms are en vogue. "Nature-inspired designs like small flowers, leaves, and animals are common too, as well as astrological symbols like zodiac signs," she tells us exclusively.
Clever cover-ups
Not even Kylie Jenner is immune to bad choices. After getting a "T" inked on her ankle for then-boyfriend Tyga in 2016, Jenner had it covered up the following year by changing it to the letters "LA." If you've previously gotten ink that you're not happy with, take a page out of Jenner's book and get a trusted tattoo artist to transform it into another tiny design. In our exclusive chat, Syd Smith confirms that little tattoos are "super easy to hide," so the stakes aren't that high if you do change your mind in the future.
