The Worst-Dressed Celebs At The 2024 ESPYs

At the 2024 ESPYs, the sports world's brightest stars swapped their sneakers for stilettos, taking the opportunity to shine in their evening best. Yet, while the glitz and glamour of the annual event set the red carpet ablaze, some ensembles sparked a mere flicker, not a flame. Hosted by tennis superstar and all-around G.O.A.T. Serena Williams, the ESPYs — which stands for Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly — honors the top athletes and sports performances of the year, so it's no surprise 2024's attendees were ready to shed their uniforms and don the duds they don't have much use for on the court.

From silk to sequins, however, some of these celebs weren't scoring points with fans as they posed for the cameras ahead of the ceremony. While we know many of the college athletes at the award show likely danced the night away at their own proms only a few years ago, it looks like a number of those celebs in attendance, both rookies and seasoned professionals, took to the racks when shopping for their own ensembles. And while there's no harm in showing a little skin, some of these so-called gowns looked more like strategically placed kinesiology tape to us. Here are the outfits that really dropped the ball at 2024's ESPY Awards.

Angel McCoughtry's pastel prom reject

While WNBA player Angel McCoughtry might also be a two-time Olympic gold medalist, her strapless, ruffled gown couldn't even earn her bronze at this event. McCoughtry looked uncomfortable in her pastel prom reject. And with her guest, Kenneth Monroe, wearing a suit that matched her shade of yellow, we're rather upset that they didn't commit to the bit and strike the stereotypical prom pose on the red carpet. She looked like a literal ray of sunshine in that she coordinated with its color, so it pains us to have to rain on her parade.

Kate Austin's designer ACE bandage

Denise Austin's forgettable dress (and its thigh-high slit) certainly wasn't the worst gown to grace the ESPYs red carpet, but her daughter Kate Austin's getup left us wondering how she could safely flex alongside her mother. While her silky, floor-length skirt camouflaged with the carpet itself, her top looked like nothing more than some leftover material from her bottom half. Does ACE make designer bandages now? Because she looked like she's wrapped and ready for her next workout. We can only imagine there was copious amounts of (kinesiology) tape holding that fabric where it needs to be.

Robin Arzon's flat sheet fiasco

Countless Peloton owners have invited Robin Arzon into their homes over the years, as her instructional workouts help many maintain their exercise goals from the comfort of their home. However, it looks like she had a hard time getting out of bed herself as indicated by the sheet she wore on the red carpet. Part toga, part soggy paper towel, Arzon's gown would be an absolute hazard on one of the company's notorious bikes, and with the way it dragged across the carpet, we can only hope she didn't trip up on the way into the ceremony.

GloRilla's beach babe bomb

GloRilla might not be an athlete, but the rapper clearly aspires to be a swimmer... or a beach bum, not sure which one. While everyone else came dressed to impress (even if they, well, didn't), GloRilla looked like she stepped right off the beach and onto the red carpet with her strapless swimsuit-esque top and her crocheted sarong. Her toned physique and tattoos were certainly on-point, but we're pretty sure she'd rather be sipping margaritas by the pool.

Mary Bonnet's corset catastrophe

Mary Bonnet was 'fit to be tied at the 2024 ESPYs thanks to her confusing corset dress. While we can't enough of corset tops no matter the occasion, Bonnet's floor-length catastrophe laced from bottom to top. We would've been able to forgive her had the dress gone no further than her buttocks, but the material that dangled downward gave definite carwash vibes. You'd think a celeb real estate agent would know how to broker a deal that'd accentuate her assets.

Lindsey Vonn's peek-a-booty boo-boo

As someone who regularly bundles up, we can understand why alpine ski racer Lindsey Vonn might want to feel the sun on her skin. However, her yellow ESPYs look left her on the verge of mooning us at any given moment. While her left side featured a long, ruched sleeve and draped train, her right side featured little to no material at all. And as she posed with her gorgeous gams on display, we couldn't help but wonder how long her exposed skin would last on the slopes in Vail.

Kaia Harris' flapper fringe

Kaia Harris, a track and field star at the University of Missouri, looked like she was channeling 1924 with her flapper fringe. While the gown's sparkly gold hue made her look like a living statuette, the style wasn't becoming of a 20-something athlete. Its homely long-sleeves and calf-length tassels might've looked fine on an older woman, but Harris' youthful vibe wasn't meshing with the old-timey flair. But we're willing to forget this misstep ever happened, as her smile alongside guest George Karlaftis III would've made even a paper bag look stylish.

Olivia Dunne's reflective failure

We all know Olivia Donne has mastered the mat, but LSU's star gymnast failed to take the red carpet to task at the 2024 ESPYs. While she might've looked like a Grecian goddess in her golden gown in any other setting, her dress looked more like a bug as she posed with its skirt outstretched. Because of its metallic nature, the gown picked up the red hue of the carpet, casting an odd glare that looked more like a shiny moth than anything else. (And her halter straps doubled as antenna, of course.) While we love that she's not afraid to take a fashion risk, this choice should have been squashed in advance.
