Princess Beatrice's Best And Worst Looks
The royal family is known for its impeccable fashion, whether we're talking about Princess Diana's iconic revenge dress or Kate Middleton's stunning style transformation over the years. However, the royals also aren't strangers to major fashion mishaps, and Princess Beatrice — the daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, the Duke and Duchess of York — definitely knows that.
While the star has served us plenty of gorgeous outfits, she's also been spotted in quite a few bad ones. Of course, it's inevitable that even royals would have a bad fashion day eventually, but unlike us commoners, their fashion flops live on the internet for all of eternity. (We don't envy them there!) Here are some of Princess Beatrice's biggest fashion wins, as well as her biggest fashion losses, proving that not even access to the best stylists can protect you from a look that doesn't age well or wasn't good to begin with.
Best: The princess' London Fashion Week look
When fashion week calls, not even royals say no. In 2023, Princess Beatrice attended Vogue World at the Spring/Summer 2024 London Fashion Week. For the occasion, the royal wore a black cape dress with a floral pattern, which is fun enough, but she also added chic pointy heels and an unexpected bold red lip. The cherry on top was the matching gloves, making the entire look perfect for the fashionable night.
Worst: Princess Beatrice may have rocked the most hideous wedding guest dress ever
In 2021, Princess Beatrice was a guest at Prince Philippos' wedding in Athens, Greece, and while we loved her hair, her wedding guest dress was a questionable one. The fit around her bust was odd, but while we can look past that, we can't look past the bedazzled edge of the top portion and the huge sequined bow at the front of the dress. In fact, we can't decide which of the two is worse.
Best: Her head-to-toe black was classic
Going for an all-black outfit is very rarely a bad choice, especially for galas. In 2023, Princess Beatrice attended the Anti Slavery Collective's inaugural Winter Gala alongside her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. However, while she opted for a black skirt and blazer, she ensured they had different textures to keep the look interesting and elevated. The royal also added just a tiny bit of contrast to her look by picking heels with a pointy, white tip.
Worst: Princess Beatrice's patterned velvet
Here at Glam, we love velvet, but pulling off an entire velvet dress takes a bit of skill. Unfortunately, Princess Beatrice's look for the Portrait Gala in 2019 didn't pass our 'fit check. While the dress' silhouette suited her well, the mixture of the patterned velvet material, the patterned red belt, and the navy velvet heels made this look a big no for us.
Best: The princess' red silk coat and LBD
At the Burlington Arcade dinner in 2019, Princess Beatrice looked absolutely stunning in a little black dress and a statement red silk coat. The outfit was sleek and classy with just a hint of casual thanks to the coat. The choice of pointy black heels and a red clutch added a bit of that mismatched vibe, taking the look even further and making it youthful, edgy, and modern.
Worst: Princess Beatrice's jacket ruined her look
While visiting the Empire State Building in New York City in 2024, Princess Beatrice gave us a fashion moment we're not too fond of. We love the casualness of the sneakers and silk midi skirt together, but the green jacket ruined the look for us. Had the royal opted for an oversized blazer or even a denim jacket, this outfit could have been a "best" instead of a "worst."
Best: Her dress for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's wedding
For Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding in 2018, Princess Beatrice wore a stunning teal dress worthy of a big royal event. The dress had lots of funky detailing, but the silhouette and simple accessories toned it down, making it perfect for the big day.
Worst: Her black and navy ensemble
We're all about breaking old-school fashion rules, and not mixing black and navy is certainly one of them. However, not everyone can pull that combination off, and those who attempt it can quickly look as if they accidentally combined the two colors. That is exactly what happened to Princess Beatrice at the BBC Earth Experience event in 2023. The royal wore a navy gown, but the belt she put on top of it ruined the look. The sleeves gave a vintage Victorian vibe, while the belt channeled a Y2K trend we all want to forget.
Best: The time Princess Beatrice pulled off a lace dress
Pulling off a dress made entirely of lace is hard, but with her simple yet elegant accessories, Princess Beatrice did it. The royal wore the delicate light blue midi dress to the 2023 Art of Wishes Gala, and the draped white jacket added the perfect touch of additional texture to the look without it becoming overbearing.
Worst: When the princess off-white touches took her look off the rails
Princess Beatrice hosted a dinner in celebration of author Gabriela Peacock's book "2 Weeks To Feeling Great" in 2021, but we have to say her choice of outfit seems rather regrettable. Even if she removed the unsightly scarf, this look just screams "early 2010s office fashion" even though she rocked it more than a decade later.
Best: Princess Beatrice is lively in sage green
In 2022, Princess Beatrice attended a summer party/fundraiser for the National Gallery's Bicentenary campaign, "NG200," and she stunned in a beautiful pale sage green gown. It's no secret that green and redheads are a match made in heaven, but in this case, the glitter made the entire look that much more glamorous.
Worst: That time Princess Beatrice wore 50 shades of the wrong gray
Princess Beatrice attended Poppy Delevingne's Valentine's lunch in 2024, but her look didn't give us any love. The royal wore a mismatched gray outfit that very much gave private all-girls school uniform. This would have been a much better outfit if she had chosen between the skirt and the vest instead of wearing both.
Best: Princess Beatrice's Christmas perfection
When the royal family attended the Together At Christmas carol service in 2023, Princess Beatrice wore a gorgeous blue and green plaid coat. The cinched waist gave her a beautiful silhouette, making her look extra elegant, while the pattern was a great choice for the holiday season.
Worst: Her poorly tailored coat dragged her look down
While Princess Beatrice definitely knows how to pick the right coat, she's also no stranger to rocking one that doesn't suit her. At the Fayre of St James's Christmas carol concert in 2023, the royal opted for a black and white coat that simply looked too big on her, especially around the shoulders.
Best: The time Beatrice mastered the pop of color
Playing it safe is something royals often do, but adding a pair of unexpected bright blue heels to a preppy 'fit is a bold choice — and we're here for it. At a dinner for the opening of a new Alice + Olivia store in London in 2022, Princess Beatrice wore a classy matching white set that looked great on her, but her choice of shoes undoubtedly stole the show.
Worst: Princess Beatrice's 2018 Met Gala ensemble
When royals attend fashion's biggest night, aka the Met Gala, we expect nothing but the best from them. Unfortunately, in 2018, Princess Beatrice disappointed us with her look. For the night's theme, "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion & The Catholic Imagination," the royal went with a color choice we can't understand — green or even light lavender would have been better — but it's the hair accessory and chocker/harness combination that makes the entire look even worse.
Best: Beatrice's night out was gorgeous
In 2016, Princess Beatrice was spotted in London for a night out in a simple black dress, which she paired with a fun jacket and eye-catching heels. The royal's look is the perfect example of how a monochromatic look doesn't have to be boring at all.
Worst: The time her shapewear was too visible
Sheer fashion and royalty aren't a mix we see too often, and for good reason. Pulling off a sheer dress is difficult, and it's clearly one that Princess Beatrice still needs to master. At the V&A Summer Party in 2017, the royal was photographed wearing a striped, sheer blue dress that didn't hide her shapewear at all — and any outfit that shows shapewear is undeniably a bad look.
Best: The princess' simple and streamlined black look
In 2015, Princess Beatrice attended the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition in London in a dress that makes a statement on its own, which is why the subtle accessories, red lip, and old Hollywood hair were perfect choices for the look. They complemented the dress perfectly.
Worst: The time the princess refused to understand that less is more
Princess Beatrice attended a 2015 fundraising gala by Harrods in a completely mismatched look that was simply all over the place. The blue top, the black jacket, the patterned shiny skirt, the strappy heels, and the pink bag all clash with each other, making it an overall bad 'fit. Individually, all of the items are beautiful, but together, they simply don't make sense.
