Shiloh Jolie-Pitt Is Making Her Biggest Transformation Yet
Shiloh Jolie-Pitt has changed a lot over the years. We've seen her grow up in the spotlight, including witnessing her fashion and hair transformation over the years. However, her next big change has fans gasping — and it has nothing to do with her appearance. According to TMZ, Shiloh filed to have "Pitt" removed from her name on her 18th birthday (May 27), which would officially make her Shiloh Jolie. However, her motive remains unknown, meaning it's unclear if she's distancing herself from her father amid Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's drawn-out divorce, which has been ongoing since 2016.
Shiloh has long established her own unique identity. In a 2010 interview with Vanity Fair, Angelina shared that Shiloh — who was 4 years old when the interview was published — has known what she's wanted from a young age. "She wants to be a boy. So we had to cut her hair. She likes to wear boys' everything. She thinks she's one of the brothers," Angelina told the outlet. Her filing to change her name isn't even the first time she's toyed with renaming herself. Back in 2008, when Shiloh was 2 years old, Brad shared with Oprah Winfrey (via HuffPost), "She only wants to be called John. John or Peter. So it's a Peter Pan thing. So we've got to call her John."
Ultimately, Shiloh's sheer autonomy over her aesthetic and self is admirable, and it can be seen in everything from her name to her fashion. Here's how Shiloh has always stepped (and repeated) to her own tune.
Shiloh Jolie-Pitt wore menswear for years
Many young girls love dressing up in glamorous gowns for special events, but that hasn't always been true for Shiloh Jolie-Pitt. In 2014, she attended the premiere of "Unbroken," a World War II-set film directed by Angelina Jolie, with her father, Brad Pitt, and brothers Maddox and Pax Jolie-Pitt. The then-8-year-old dressed in a black suit and tie with a white shirt under her jacket. Her short hair was slicked back to the side, and she accessorized with a single gold necklace. Shiloh kept up this menswear style for years, often wearing baggy hoodies and sneakers on red carpets. They weren't ordinary hoodies, though. They were often blinged out, elevating the garments from street-style staple to red-carpet couture, as seen as the 2014 premiere of Disney's "Maleficent."
Shiloh's masculine energy has been present in her hair, too. For instance, she used to keep her hair on the short side, favoring a Y2K-inspired side part. Some critics have even slammed Shiloh for her masculine appearance over the years, but she's continued marching to the beat of her own drum regardless. That said, when she hit her mid-teenage years, fans saw an about-face in her style, with Shiloh embracing a more feminine look.
Shiloh Jolie-Pitt looks equally as stunning in dresses
After years of wearing suits and the like to red-carpet events, Shiloh Jolie-Pitt accompanied Angelina Jolie, along with her siblings, to the 2021 premiere of "Eternals" in Los Angeles in a deconstructed version of a dress Jolie perviously wore to the French Apidology Observatory with white ballet flats. "My kids are all mixed with vintage ... We did all vintage and upcycled my old stuff," the "Salt" star told ET at the time. The then-15-year-old had grown her hair out and styled it in a ponytail. Shiloh twinned with her mom, who wore a slightly darker and strapless olive-colored gown.
Shiloh's next "Eternals" premiere in Rome featured a little black dress with yellow and black polka-dotted sneakers, while she donned a remix of Jolie's Christian Dior dress at the film's U.K. premiere. The long black and white dress had been shortened for Shiloh, and the straps were altered for a more streamlined look. Speaking about Shiloh's style transformation, an inside source shared with Life & Style at the time, "Shiloh loves music, dance, acting, and lately, thanks to her sister Zahara, fashion. It wasn't always like that, but now she loves dressing up in her mom's clothes." This just goes to show that no one will ever be able to put Shiloh in a box, with her knowing exactly who she is, always embracing how she wants to live, and not being scared of change.
