What Gigi Hadid Has Said About Plastic Surgery Over The Years

Ever since Gigi Hadid rose to global fame in the mid-2010s, her beauty has been undeniable — and a major topic of discussion. With time, some of the star's features seem to have slightly changed, whether thanks to nearing her 30s or going through a pregnancy. Of course, this is a completely natural occurrence, but many are quick to come to the conclusion that the model has had some work done.

While the rich and famous usually tend to avoid discussing plastic procedures and beauty enhancements, Gigi Hadid has been an open book about them. "People think I do fillers on my face, and that's why my face is round," Hadid admitted in a 2020 live video on Instagram, where she talked candidly with makeup artist Erin Parsons from Maybelline (via Harper's Bazaar). "I have had cheeks since I was born," the star added. "For those wondering, I have never put or injected anything into my face. I am so happy for everyone to do whatever they want that makes them happy and makes them feel more comfortable and good about themselves. Me personally, it terrifies me." Along with confirming that she hasn't had any invasive cosmetic procedures, the mother-of-one has also explained that changes in her look simply come down to makeup.

Did Gigi Hadid ever do facial injections?

During her live chat on Instagram, Gigi Hadid opened up about the rumors that she had explored facial injections like fillers and botox, explaining that she supports other people's choices to undergo cosmetic procedures even though she hasn't taken that step herself.

Since Gigi's own sister, fellow model Bella Hadid, has opened up about plastic surgery — admitting that she regrets the nose job she had done at the age of 14 — it's hard to believe that Gigi wouldn't be as transparent. "I wish I had kept the nose of my ancestors. I think I would have grown into it," Bella told Vogue in 2022, adding that she has not undergone any other procedures. "I have never used filler. Let's just put an end to that. I have no issue with it, but it's not for me. Whoever thinks I've gotten my eyes lifted or whatever it's called — it's face tape!" The fact that both sisters have addressed plastic surgery over the years certainly helps bring more acceptance and knowledge to a topic that was (and for many, unfortunately, still is) a major taboo. And they're in good company, as there have been other celebrities who have shared their thoughts on plastic surgery as well.

Why does Gigi Hadid look so different now?

Gigi Hadid hit the spotlight as a teen in the early 2010s, and it's only natural that her appearance has changed since then. Of course, apart from growing up and changing naturally, makeup also played a major role in her appearance — and it's part of the reason why Hadid's face looks slightly different on red carpets today.

"When I look back on my first red carpets, when I didn't have makeup artists, or someone to call, I would obviously do my own makeup," Hadid admitted to Vogue in 2021. "And now it's like, people pull up those pictures, and are like, 'Oh, Gigi's nose looks different in these pictures than now,' or they'll talk about something with my face, like, 'This has changed on Gigi.' And it's really, like, that's the power of makeup." And if there's one thing we know here at Glam, it's certainly that makeup is an extremely powerful transformation tool, allowing you to easily hide or enhance different features. "Like I've never done anything to my face. But the way that I've learned, that I'll show you, to contour in certain places, put bronzer in some places, and leave it out in other places, is something that you have to learn," the star added. And after comparing photos of her from her career beginnings and now, we have to agree that Hadid has certainly nailed her snatched contour routine. However, while we always adore her makeup, we also have to admit that Hadid looks flawless when makeup-free.

Gigi Hadid says she's all about self acceptance

Even though Gigi Hadid grew up in the glamorous world of the rich and famous — her father is real-estate developer Mohamed Hadid, and her mother is former model and "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star Yolanda Hadid — it seems as if the model didn't allow her surroundings to affect her confidence. In fact, the fashion industry is typically where one is judged solely based on their appearance, yet Hadid has managed to remain true to herself. Perhaps learning from her sister Bella's experience with permanent changes — and the regret that came after — has allowed Gigi to work on acceptance rather than change that cannot be reversed.

"I think that people are so fast to do permanent things to their face. I've loved being like, I accept myself for how it is. It doesn't mean I don't have insecurities sometimes, but for special occasions you can sculpt your nose a little bit or do whatever with makeup," she explained in her Instagram live video (via Harper's Bazaar). "Makeup is such a beautiful tool to help you feel your best for special moments but also to accept your beautiful face for exactly how God made it ... and your mama and dada." And after having given birth to her daughter in 2020, there's no doubt that Gigi's journey towards self-acceptance became even more significant as she now has someone looking up to her. "I don't think I'm the prettiest person in the world," she told The Times in 2023. "Some Botox could probably help but I'm not so obsessed with caring that I want to do anything about it."
