The Worst-Dressed Celebs On The 2024 Cannes Film Festival Red Carpet

A highly anticipated red carpet can only mean one thing: celebs who inevitably miss the mark. More specifically, the 77th Cannes Film Festival, held from May 14 to May 15, 2024, saw celebs of various kinds, from actors to entrepreneurs, and their equally differing fashion statements.

The prestigious film festival has certain dress codes in place, preventing the invite-only attendees from showing up wearing just anything. According to the event's official website, women should opt for an evening or a cocktail dress —  or, alternatively, a formal top (dare we say the going-out top?) with black trousers — when attending screenings. Men, on the other hand, are expected to adhere to black-tie standards, which call for a darker suit with a traditional tie (or bow tie). Heels are optional, and sneakers are out of the question. While we're not specifically here to judge whether a celebrity has violated the fashion guidelines or not, we will be judging the overall appropriateness of their outfits and their styling choices. If you're already set on breaking fashion rules, at least make it worth your while (which wasn't the case for many on our roster).

Without further ado, we've compiled a collection of six of the most questionable 2024 Cannes Film Festival looks, and while it includes a number of repeat fashion offenders who just can't seem to get it right, it also features typically stylish figures who rarely find themselves on round-ups of this nature. Ready to take a stroll down the carpet?

Aishwarya Rai's dress looked like leftover holiday decor

While we don't typically single out one celeb for questionable red carpet fashion, we must admit that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's looks often leave us scratching our heads. At the Cannes Film Festival, the Bollywood star donned a tinsel-embellished Falguni Shane Peacock gown in silver and turquoise tones, sending fashion critics into a frenzy. Despite the custom dress' stunning silhouette, the perplexing tinsels made her look like she was trailing Christmas decorations behind her.

Furthermore, the star's overall beauty approach was underwhelming compared to the grandeur of her tinsel gown. Instead of an equally bold hairstyle to match her extravagant look, the actor wore comparatively boring free-flowing hair.

Victoria Justice proudly showed off her underwear

Apparently, Victoria Justice hasn't heard that the sheer trend got less racy in 2024. The "Victorious" star opted for a see-through black gown by Zuhair Murad featuring an off-the-shoulder bodice and a crinoline bottom. Not only was the actor's outfit underwhelming and seen so many times by now, but it also wasn't the most suitable trend for the occasion. Justice's black underwear was on full display, which might've been a statement for, say, a vacation ensemble — but not at one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world.

Aubrey Plaza's look jogged our memory in the worst way possible

There were a couple of questionable aspects of Aubrey Plaza's 2024 Cannes Film Festival look, to say the least. The actor wore a long-sleeved cream gown by Loewe, with the dress featuring a rolled accent across her hips that resembled a towel rolled up after a shower. This wasn't the first time a Loewe dress failed to flatter the "Agatha All Along" star, as she also landed on Emmy's worst-dressed list this year. As if the oddly rolled silhouette wasn't enough for her puzzling Cannes look, Plaza opted for turquoise jewelry, evoking memories of the infamous 2012 era of accessories we wish we could forget.

Eva Green's avant-garde dress was not her vibe

Eva Green's unexpectedly whimsical look for the 2024 Cannes Film Festival raised eyebrows for all the wrong reasons. The "Dreamers" actor took a bold red carpet risk in an Iris van Herpen dress reminiscent of a bodysuit, but the look failed to impress. Perhaps it was Green's hair, which blended into the garment too much, or the clashing peep-toe platform sandals that threw us off, but something about the ensemble didn't feel quite right. More delicate footwear or a different beauty route might have salvaged the overall aesthetic, allowing the dress to speak for itself. Instead, Green's look ended up overly busy and unnecessarily heavy.

Zoe Saldaña wrapped herself up for failure

Although bow stacking is a unique way to elevate the basic bow trend, Zoe Saldaña's double-bow dress didn't live up to our expectations. The strapless Saint Laurent gown in black boasted a blush pink wrap-around train coming into a bow at the front, along with an additional matching bow further down the dress. While the gown looked great from the back, the front somehow looked equal parts disheveled and underwhelming. The "Avatar" star added insult to injury with gold statement jewelry from Boucheron. Daintier jewels would've better enhanced the gown's eye-catching silhouette.

Cindy Bruna stopped by on her way to the office

French model Cindy Bruna might've misread her Cannes Film Festival invitation, as she showed up to the red carpet in a gray, oversized suit. While we love the look for a casual city outing or a stylish 9-5 office shift, Bruna's striped Laruicci ensemble seemed out of place for the magnitude of the festival. Featuring wide trousers, a button-down, and a long overcoat with prominent shoulder padding, Bruna's take on red-carpet fashion proved unsuccessful. In an attempt to offset the sheer size of her suit, the model bared some of her stomach, but the risk didn't salvage her oversized fashion mishap.
