Worst-Dressed Celebs Of The Week: JoJo Siwa's Goth Was Ghastly, Avril Lavigne Courted Cliché, & More

Star-watchers, celeb-spotters, and enthusiastic fashionistas are never short of new fodder from the paparazzi, and this week was no exception. We got to eyeball the styles at major Hollywood premieres — like the red-carpet events for Dev Patel's action movie "Monkey Man" and Andrew Scott's limited series "Ripley" — and April 2 also brought a slew of icons together for the iHeartRadio Music Awards. But while some celebs hit the ball out of the park with their ensembles at these events — did you see Beyoncé's cowgirl-chic iHeartRadio Music Awards look? — others didn't fare so well.

We get that our favorite stars are only human, and dressing for the red carpet is tough. Play it safe and risk criticism for a boring look, or go too avant-garde and get dinged for overdoing it. Suffice it to say, everyone's trying their best, but those best efforts don't always pan out. This week, we saw some fashion triumphs — but we also saw some surprising flops, including 'fits from JoJo Siwa, Avril Lavigne, and more.

Naz Perez

As a TV host, producer, and podcaster, Naz Perez is undeniably talented, but the self-proclaimed fashionista left us scratching our heads with her sartorial choices at the Hollywood premiere of "Monkey Man" on April 3. The blatantly sporty look, complete with knee-high athletic shoes and a branded Adidas jersey, seemed like a nod to something — but we're not sure what. Was Perez trying to hint at the martial arts background of Dev Patel's character in the film? Whatever her reasoning, we're sorry to say that the final outfit looked bizarre and out of place on the red carpet.

Karrueche Tran

Also attending the "Monkey Man" premiere, "Claws" actor Karrueche Tran stunned with her slick, über-chic pixie cut. Unfortunately, the rest of Tran's ensemble didn't live up to her flawless beauty look. On paper, the idea of a matched set in floral pink silk seems perfect for spring, but both the pencil skirt and bra top appeared at least one or two sizes too small. This poor fit completely undermined the style's soft femininity, leaving us with an impression of awkward, too-tight constraint.

Lainey Wilson

Call us tasteless, but we almost liked Lainey Wilson's wild outfit for the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards on April 2. Was it a lot of look? Yes, but at least it was interesting. Ultimately, this maximalist take on Western wear veered too costumey, but we applaud the "Heart Like a Truck" singer for taking risks. With a little editing, elements of this style could have worked — for example, pairing the layered, leather-and-feather poncho with straight-legged pants or trading in the hat for a restrained updo. It's a lesson to remember as we follow Beyoncé into our own country eras.

Taylor Bisciotti

At the other end of the spectrum, sports reporter Taylor Bisciotti underwhelmed with her iHeartRadio Music Awards 'fit. Cute but far too casual, the combo of a midriff-knotted graphic tee with a sheer and sparkly pink skirt served early noughties shopping mall rather than red carpet. This ensemble wouldn't have felt out of place in "Mean Girls" — an aesthetic we appreciate, especially with the ongoing popularity of Y2K fashion — but it leaves something to be desired at a special event like an awards show.

Da'Vine Joy Randolph

At the Hollywood premiere of "Ripley" on April 3, actor Da'Vine Joy Randolph wore a fun striped number in shades of lime, shamrock, and hunter's green. While we love the playful sensibility of her dress — and Randolph herself looked radiant — two details detracted from our appreciation of the style. For one, the extra straps over the collarbones seemed to box in and shorten Randolph's neck. Meanwhile, the frock's chunky, fringed hem reminded us of those flyers with tear-off phone numbers. A sleeker hem would have made a classier counterpoint to the bold pattern.

Avril Lavigne

With so many major stars in attendance, it's no surprise that there were more missteps at the iHeartRadio Music Awards on April 2. For instance, we have to call out Avril Lavigne for the same faux pas that earned Shakira a spot among Glam's worst-dressed celebrities of the week on March 29. The problem is this: We've seen Lavigne embody this exact aesthetic for over 20 years. You could charitably say it's her signature style, but it eventually starts to feel cliché. The pop-punk icon could show us so much more if she tried.

JoJo Siwa

Finally, JoJo Siwa went for it with her punk-glam look at the iHeartRadio Music Awards, and it sure seemed like she was having fun on the event's yellow carpet. However, much like Lainey Wilson's look, the outfit completely bypassed fashion and sped straight into costume territory. The sheer, glittery bodysuit — paired with that interesting makeup — evoked the glam-rock style of KISS a little too hard, earning a spot among Siwa's worst outfits of all time. We're glad that Siwa was feeling herself, but this over-the-top ensemble gets a no à la Randy Jackson from us.
