We Tried Gisou's Honey Infused Hair Mask & The Experience Was Luxurious
There's no shortage of hair masks designed to repair dry and damaged hair, but not all of them receive the same wide-reaching praise that the award-winning Gisou Mini Honey Infused Hair Mask has. As such, we put it to the test to find out if this best-selling treatment actually lives up to the hype.
The sample size of the standard Honey Infused Hair Mask retails for $25 for 2.5 ounces, while the full-size version is $57 for 7.8 ounces. The convenient sample option is a concession to the otherwise daunting price tag, and it provides a cost-efficient alternative to investing in the standard-size product without knowing if it'll work for your hair.
That said, Gisou notes that the Honey Infused Mask is formulated to pair well with all hair types, including fine, wavy, and curly hair. Gisou's mask also contains nourishing ingredients that claim to restore hydration to thirsty strands, naturally using fresh honey as the star ingredient. In fact, founder Negin Mirsalehi uses the honey cultivated from her family's bee garden with other powerhouse ingredients like baobab extract, coconut oil, and monoi of Tahiti. Together, this blend of honey and botanicals aims to smooth frizz, prevent breakage, and moisturize parched strands to leave you with soft, healthy hair.
Results on damp hair
Scent can be a major deciding factor when it comes to forming a first impression. In this case, Gisou's subtle fragrance doesn't disappoint. The Honey Infused Hair Mask emits a sweet, floral scent that's light and feminine. Although the scent is far from overwhelming, the mask still contains artificial fragrance and may irritate those with chemical sensitivities.
After passing the initial scent test, we tried the hair mask on damp hair. We first washed our hair with shampoo before gently wringing out the excess water. Next, we applied a generous amount of the mask cream, focusing on the mid-strands and ends, as they tend to be dryer than the roots. The mask's whipped texture is thick and creamy, and unlike many other hair masks, you don't need massive globs of product for even distribution. Instead, its buttery consistency spreads nicely, even on thick and wavy hair.
While we waited for five minutes for the ingredients to work their magic, we tied our hair up in a claw clip and carried on with the rest of our shower routine. Once the five minutes were up, we noticed a significant difference in our hair upon rinsing out the mask with a wide-tooth comb — one of our favorite tips for safely detangling without damaging your hair. Our hair felt incredibly smooth and silky despite only leaving the product in for five minutes. There was hardly any need for conditioner, as the mask made it easy to detangle our hair on its own.
Results on dry hair
To test the mask on dry hair, we sectioned our hair and applied the product to our mid-strands and ends. We found that we needed to apply more product on dry hair, as the product was thicker without water, which made it difficult to spread. We waited 15 minutes and then rinsed out the mask in the shower before using shampoo and conditioner. Our hair felt soft, but we still required a standard amount of conditioner to detangle after shampooing.
Ultimately, the popularity of Gisou's Honey Infused Hair Mask is, indeed, warranted. In terms of moisture and softness, the mask meets all expectations. It doesn't weigh down your hair, and it reduces frizz for wavy and curly hair types. However, we didn't notice any significant benefits after blow-drying. Our hair was silky soft, but there weren't any big differences when used on damp versus dry hair.
Nevertheless, there's no denying that our hair felt noticeably softer, and we marveled at how smooth it stayed between washes. The moisture also enhances natural waves or curls. Our final verdict? The Gisou Mini Honey Infused Hair Mask left our hair feeling silky and slightly less frizzy after styling, so it's certainly worth a try if you're ever in the mood to pamper your luscious locks.
