Bring Pumpkin Spice To Your Lip Look This Fall
'Tis the season for crunchy autumn leaves, chilly weather, and many pumpkin spice lattes. Fall is an eagerly anticipated time of year with so much to look forward to. The cooler weather gives us the opportunity to bring out our favorite chunky sweaters, cotton trench coats, and knee-high boots. It also allows us to experiment with new fall makeup, using warmer hues like brown, red, orange, and black. It seems that mismatched chrome eyeshadow has already become a popular trend for the fall. And since it's pumpkin spice latte season, it's only fair to incorporate the drink that brings autumn excitement into our makeup routines.
Makeup brand NYX Cosmetics posted a video on TikTok showing how to achieve the perfect pumpkin spice look for your lips. Stick to the latte's color palette, mainly using brown and orange tones. To achieve pumpkin spice lips, your go-to products should be a brown lip liner and an orange matte liquid lipstick. In the video, the creator demonstrates her technique of outlining her lips with a thick, dark stroke and filling them in with orange lipstick. When she presses her lips together, she seamlessly blends the two products. She also adds a lighter lipstick on top, patting it into the center to brighten up the result. You can recreate this spicy lip look using products you may already have at home.
Add a hint of red
Pumpkin spice lattes are typically orange and brown in color, but if you want to change it up, you can add a touch of red. Instagram user @curlbellaa achieved pumpkin spice lips by layering three lip products. She started by using the MAC Cosmetics Lip Pencil in the shade Chestnut to create a thin outline. Then, she applied the Locked Kiss 24HR Lipstick in Sophistry below the lip liner, avoiding the center. For the center of her lips, @curlbellaa added L'Oreal Paris Les Chocolats Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick in Ginger Bomb. Finally, she blended everything with a small brush.
Use different shades of brown
If you're more of a neutral girly, stick to what you love. You can use two brown shades to create the perfect pumpkin spice lip combo. French makeup artist @frenchtouchofmakeup used Make Up For Ever's Artist Color Pencil Brow, Eye & Lip Liner in Limitless Brown, and SuperStay Matte Ink Un-nude Liquid Lipstick in Driver. She outlined her lips, filling them slightly, then added the lipstick and blended it with a small fluffy brush. She applied more liner with a thin brush for more color.
Top it off with a colored gloss
We have to include glossy lip products when there's a new lip trend. So far, we've seen many matte lipsticks but no glosses. To take your pumpkin spice lips to the next level, top off your look with a colored lip gloss. For example, British Pro Makeup Artist @islaarobinson used the Hourglass Phantom Volumizing Glossy Lip Balm in the shade Trace on top of her lip liner and matte liquid lipstick. The glossy balm added shine and enhanced the matte lipstick's pigment, giving it a gorgeous burnt orange color.
Or use a clear gloss
If you don't want to change the color of your matte lipstick with a colored gloss, layer a clear gloss. Sometimes, the colored gloss and matte lipstick shades don't work together, but clear glosses will give you the shine you want. Instagram creator @klaxtniel layered her lip liner and lipstick with a thick clear lip gloss that gave her pumpkin spice lips a glazed look. She also used a different technique when applying her lip liner; she lined her lips and filled the sides, which made blending with the lipstick easier.
Use light neutral tones
A bold brown lip can be overwhelming for some folks, so use a lighter shade instead of reaching for a deep brown lipstick. Instagram user @irmita_santos_ created a flawless light-colored pumpkin spice latter version with the NYX Slim Lip Pencil Creamy Long-Lasting Lip Liner in Nutmeg, NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream Lightweight Liquid Lipstick, and NYX Butter Gloss Non-Sticky Lip Gloss in Madeleine. The results give a beautiful peachy aspect to the pumpkin spice latte look. It's lighter, glossy, and chic — ideal for anyone who enjoys a subtle lip but still wants to join the fun trend.
