Tania Speaks Organic Skincare: What Happened To The Brand After Shark Tank?
For many, being an entrepreneur means turning your hardships into successes. This is especially true for Tania Speaks, the founder of her very own skincare brand, Tania Speaks Organic Skincare. Growing up, Speaks was bullied for her thick eyebrows and felt pressured to make them thinner. When she tried trimming her eyebrows with a razor, she ended up in the emergency room with stitches and patchy brows. She searched all over to find products to help them grow back, but nothing seemed to work. This inspired her to make her own organic brow gel by experimenting with natural ingredients. In doing so, she discovered the hair benefits of aloe vera and vitamin E.
These same bullies became some of Speaks' first customers. She was able to embrace her full brows and go on to help others do the same. At just 19 years old, she went on ABC's "Shark Tank" to pitch her brand to investors Mark Cuban, Kevin O'Leary, Lori Greiner, Barbara Corcoran, and Daymond John. Spoiler: Her pitch made Cuban cry. Since launching her business in 2016, Speaks has done well for herself and has even created additional products beyond the brow gel. If you're looking for organic skincare or to embrace your bushy brows, Speaks' brand might be for you.
Tania Speaks' experience pitching on Shark Tank
Tania Speaks appeared on "Shark Tank" in January of 2022 seeking $400,000 for 10% equity in her business. She blows the sharks away with her story of overcoming her obstacles and bringing in impressive sales numbers. That year alone, the company made $1.4 million in sales all through her brand's website. Even before "the show, Cosmopolitan named Speaks' brow gel "the #1 Eyebrow Growth Serum That Actually Works" in 2021. Investor Kevin O'Leary tells her, "I don't think we've ever had anybody in 13 years of Shark Tank stand on that carpet that has achieved what you have," via CNBC.
Along with her brow gel, Speaks showcases her foaming cleanser, resurfacing toner, facial moisturizer, and beard oil, all made with natural ingredients such as aloe vera, vitamin E, vitamin C, carrot seed, and jojoba seed oil. The sharks are supportive of Speaks, but none of them offer her a deal because they don't see how they could add value to the company.
As Speaks is getting ready to say her goodbyes, however, Mark Cuban changes his mind and makes her a deal. He first offers $400,000 for 20% and asks her to meet his young daughters. After gladly agreeing to meet Cuban's daughters, Speaks makes a counter offer of $400,000 for 15%, which Cuban accepts. "I saw my daughters, and my sons, for that matter, in her," he says at the end of the pitch.
How is Tania Speaks Organic Skincare doing today?
With millions of viewers tuning in to "Shark Tank," appearing on the show and securing a deal with Mark Cuban certainly allowed Tania Speaks to gain exposure and increase her customer base.
It appears that all products are stocked and for sale on the brand's website, which also features some testimonials from happy customers. Customers who ordered the Naked On The Go Organic Skincare Kit, which is a bundle of several products, have had positive things to say. One customer raves, "Love that they are organic and actually work. Worth every penny!" Regarding the brow gel, another customer says, "My brows have grown tremendously after using it for just a few weeks."
Unfortunately, as of April 2023, the brand received some negative reviews on a site called Trust Pilot, where customers claimed they didn't receive the orders they placed, nor did they receive a refund.
What's next for Tania Speaks Organic Skincare?
With Tania Speaks Organic Skincare showing a lack of activity on Instagram, Facebook, or Tania Speaks' personal pages since the "Shark Tank" episode aired back in January of 2022, it's hard to say what's next for the brand. In a 2022 interview with Cheddar News, Speaks said she wants to focus on improving her products and expanding her skincare line in the future. Though there haven't been any updates regarding Tania Speaks Organic Skincare, we're hoping to see new products released at some point.
We did notice, however, that the brand doesn't appear on the list of Mark Cuban's investments, including those from "Shark Tank," on his website. This could indicate that their deal is still in the works, or perhaps it was called off.
Speaks graduated from Hofstra University in 2022 with a degree in entrepreneurship, so we may see some future businesses from her down the line. She suggested as much in a 2018 interview with Time, so who knows what she may have in the works. Regardless, we wish all the best for Speaks and her skincare brand.
