Inside The Meredith Duxbury Foundation Trend On TikTok
When you pop on foundation, you should end up with the kind of coverage that makes you feel comfortable in more ways than one. Along with the fact that it should give you a relatively blank slate to work with while adding other cosmetics, it should also feel as good as it looks. When it comes to what type of foundation or how much to use, that will depend on your needs and preferences.
"I always refer people to foundation that is light to medium coverage because it's buildable," celebrity makeup artist Allen Avendaño explained to InStyle. Of course, you can also opt for a foundation that is on the lighter side or something that is much thicker. If you don't like makeup that feels heavy, then you should go for the first option. If you're not sure what you need, then a sheer option might suit you best. However, if your aim is to hide something that you're not keen on highlighting or you need a product that will last all day and maybe even into the night, then you may need a foundation that offers full coverage.
If your interest has been piqued by the option of hardcore coverage, then you may want to try out a TikTok makeup trend that's been sparked by popular social media figure Meredith Duxbury. But be warned that this is a foundation hack that isn't for everyone, which is why it has resulted in some pretty shocked reactions.
Meredith Duxbury's foundation technique is extreme
It seems like Meredith Duxbury is willing to throw out established rules when it comes to applying makeup if she ends up with the result that she wants. For instance, she happened to share one TikTok video that shows how she puts on her foundation and, well, wow!
After first prepping her skin with an impressive amount of primer, Duxbury begins to pump foundation onto the back of her hand. She then pumps more and more and even more until she has a shocking amount of product piled up. Next, she takes the back of a makeup brush — not the bristles — and scoops up a staggering amount of foundation before absolutely slathering it onto her face. She rubs the makeup in using only her fingers before blending her heart out. During the process, she offers tips to make this work and warns that it's not something that will suit everyone. Fair enough.
From there, Duxbury completes her look in a second video and third video. It's totally understandable if you watch the trio and continue to doubt that this over-the-top technique will end up with an enviable result. However, when she wraps things up, there's no denying that she's been left with a glam look that's ready for a night on the town. That's surely why plenty of other social media users have been reacting to and trying out Duxbury's arguably unusual way of applying foundation.
Not everyone is on board with the method
Just because Meredith Duxbury can make this makeup hack work for her doesn't mean that it will do the same for everyone else. Frankly, when it comes to the super-thick application and smooth result, the technique seems almost too good to be true for anyone who appreciates truly full coverage. Fortunately, fellow TikTok makeup influencer Nikkia Joy was willing to give it a try. Laughing as she reminds viewers of Duxbury's step-by-step method, she applies no less than 10 pumps of foundation as well as other cosmetics that are used almost as heavily. As things progress, a truly shocked Joy begins to admit that the process is actually working out in her favor.
Raylene Chanel also gave Duxbury's foundation trick a try and told her followers that she had a potential name for the technique, saying, "It would be called trust the process." When Chanel finished the full routine, she didn't seem to be convinced that it was the right method for her, although she did admit that everyone has different preferences.
If you're wondering who exactly might want to use a process that will see you going through a significant amount of foundation, Duxbury has an answer.
Meredith Duxbury reveals who will benefit from her hack
Meredith Duxbury is aware of the fact that her foundation hack has gone viral. She also knows that some people seriously doubt that she could achieve the end result that she shows off using the substantial amount of makeup that she supposedly puts on. Beyond that, she isn't shying away from pointing out that there are some makeup users on social media that are questioning why she would choose to use so much of the product when you could get the same result by using different methods and much less foundation. That's why she posted a response TikTok that explains her reasoning.
"Your girl has quite a bit of freckles, okay? Rubbing the foundation in with my hands is just the way that works best for me. The warmth of my hands just blends everything in super, super smooth," Duxbury says while applying her makeup. Adding that she simply prefers to use a lot of product, she points out that one of the benefits of makeup is that you can use it in whatever way you want to suit both your wants and needs.
In a second video on the subject, Duxbury adds, "I think everyone's entitled to their own opinion and I don't really mind if people say they don't like this or it doesn't look good because I like it and I think it looks good." She also added some sound advice for her followers, wherever they stand: "Don't let people affect you."
