The Stunning Hair Transformation Of Pink

When Pink (or P!nk) burst into the music scene in 2000, her hair reflected the moniker she adopted. Born Alecia Moore, the pop star sported neon pink hair that stood out from singers like Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson. The "Raise Your Glass" pop star revealed that her nickname was given to her long before she dyed her locks. "It's a nickname [I got from] YMCA. I used to go to camp there and this boy I had a crush on pulled my pants down in front of everybody," she explained on "The Rosie O'Donnell Show" in 2011 (via The Chronicle). She continued, "It's really hard to embarrass me so it became a mission for people. I turned pink and everybody was like 'Oh look at her she's pink!'"

Despite her name, Pink didn't just stick with one hair color over the course of her career. In fact, she's experimented with all sorts of shades, including platinum blond and deep brunette. However, it seems she has a love for everything pink, since she's often gone back to that color in various shades. These days, the mom of two is sporting a blond mohawk, but the many hair transformations she's had throughout the years show off her fun and funky side.

2000-2003: Pink's fuchsia to maroon hair

The Y2K era was full of bubblegum pop artists, but Pink went against the grain with her rockstar energy. Her first hit was the cheeky breakup song "There You Go," and she went on to release many more chart-toppers, such as "Just Like a Pill" and "Get the Party Started." Back then, she wowed with her bright pink locks that were as colorful as her personality. In a 2000 interview shared on YouTube, Pink stated, "People have to categorize you. It makes them feel better." She revealed that she was signed to a label in 1996 before mainstream pop singers like Mandy Moore and Christina Aguilera emerged. "So it was like, they didn't know what to think of me," she recalled.

In 2003, Pink went for a more punk rock look with a darker maroon color styled into a fauxhawk. It was definitely a more toned-down shade, but it still had an edge to it, especially with her wispy bangs. Pink is known to favor short hair and her messy pixie cut definitely showed off her gorgeous features.

2005-2006: Pink experimented with fantasy colors

The early 2000s were full of fantasy hair colors and Pink joined the throng of rainbow-haired folk with her electric blue dye job in 2005. She allowed her hair to grow a bit into a shaggy lob with chunky layers, with buttery blond ends. By then, the singer had already won two Grammy awards for her song "Trouble," from her "Try This" album, and "Lady Marmalade," a collaboration with Christina Aguilera, Mya, and Lil' Kim.

As with many of her hair colors in the early days of her career, Pink's blue shade didn't last too long. The following year, she showed off a beautiful ombré 'do with platinum blond gradually becoming a light pink and then turning to bright fuchsia at the ends. Her hair was even longer, and she was able to style it in a curly chignon that fans undoubtedly wanted to copy immediately.

2007-2008: Pink's pixie cuts showed off her softer side

Pink said goodbye to her semi-long hair (for her) and chopped it all off for a pixie cut in 2007. Her short 'do was a gorgeous warm blond shade with subtle highlights, with no hint of fantasy color to be seen. This look was much more pop star than rock-and-roll, and she even took a subtler approach with her makeup. Pink's softer look may have had something to do with her getting married to racer Carey Hart the year before. As reported by People, the two were wed in Costa Rica at a waterside resort surrounded by family and friends.

The year 2008 saw Pink with a slightly longer version of her pixie. This time, her bangs and sides fell over her forehead and ears, but her hair still had a rockstar feel with choppy layers. Sadly, she and Hart announced their separation in February of that year, which inspired her to write "So What." All was good between Pink and Hart, however, and he even appeared in her music video. Just like many of Pink's hairstyles, the split was only temporary, and the two reunited a year later.

2010: Pink went for a moody brunette shade

Pink has been known to favor blond hair, especially platinum shades. However, in 2010, she embraced her darker side with a deep chocolate color. What's more, fans saw her with the shortest cut ever with a super-cropped pixie, making the "Get the Party Started" singer virtually unrecognizable. We have to say, this look totally gives us inspo for a punk pixie cut.

While the brunette phase didn't last long, Pink showed off her Audrey Hepburn pixie at "An Evening With Women" in 2010, shared on YouTube by the Los Angeles LGBT Center. Sitting on the stage next to another iconic singer, Linda Perry of 4 Non Blondes, Pink sang the hit song "What's Up" looking like a bohemian goddess. As a non-blond herself, Pink was the perfect person to perform the song, and she hit all the high notes with ease. In the comments, one fan gushed, "Who is falling in love here? Pink? Linda Perry? Me? Yeah, it's me. I love this performance, the energy is outstanding and obviously they both sound amazing!!!!!!"

2012: Pink's cotton candy pixie

In 2012, Pink went pink again, but this time with a light-hearted pastel shade. Who knew that the gravelly voiced singer had a bubbly side? As Pink's popularity continued to grow, Cover Girl made her the face of the brand that year. Pink's big reveal featured cotton-candy hair mixed with blond, plus a blue smokey eye with bubblegum-pink lips. "I have a lot to celebrate. I called my new album 'The Truth About Love,' and the truth is that I have my beautiful family and baby girl, my new music and now my partnership with CoverGirl to love," she said in a statement at the time (via CBS News).

Pink's pastel hair didn't take away from her tough side, though. "I was a dark teenager. When I was 17 or 18, I had not yet exorcised my demons. My anger is more focused now. Maybe I'm less certain and more open to negotiation," she told USA Today in a 2012 interview.

2016: Pink's undercut was so rock and roll

Proving she was more rock and roll than ever, Pink debuted an undercut with a darker shade of pink in 2016. In a tribute to the 1940s, she often styled her buzzed cut with large victory rolls on top of her head, giving her a classic look. In a Facebook post shared in July of that year, she showed off an extra-poofy 'do and wrote, "My friend & fashion hairdresser Alberto Guzman inspired me to up my selfie game. I may suck at all that, but my eyebrow game is strong right now." A fan replied, "So gorgeous! I miss having my hair like P!nk's so badly but my work is pretty strict. I'm getting it as close as possible tho! She is my style icon!!"

In a later post in October 2016, Pink's hair had faded into a lighter shade, but she still rocked her undercut. Instead of the victory rolls, she braided the top half of her hair into sections. "Thanks Pam Neal," she wrote, giving her hairstylist props. One fan responded: "I like the new hairstyle. You know you're one of the few people in this world that can be innovative with hairstyles and look amazing every time." We couldn't agree more!

2019-2022: Pink keeps her hair short and sweet

No more neon colors for Pink — 2019 saw her back to blond with her undercut grown out. Her bangs were still long enough for a teased style, proving that she wasn't losing her edge as a mom of two young kids. It was also the year she earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. As shared by the organization, Pink accepted the honor while holding her son Jameson Hart, whose blond hair adorably matched his mom's. The singer sported a slicked style with a deep side part and looked very much the icon as she accepted her star, which was colored — you guessed it — pink.

Pink wore a sleeker 'do at the 2022 American Music Awards, where she performed her song, "Never Gonna Not Dance Again." Never one to put on a dull performance, she roller-skated around the stage wearing bright neon colors and multi-colored neon hair clips that held down her side part while singing her bop. One thing's for sure: Pink always keeps fans on their toes with her many varied hairstyles and hits.

2023-Present: Pink rocks a mohawk

Are there any hairstyles Pink doesn't look good in? The pop star continually proves that short hair never has to be boring, with a neverending fresh take on her cuts. These days, the "Just Like Fire" singer has gone back to buzzing the bottom half of her head and rocking a mohawk on top. Pink wore the look for her "Trustfall" album cover, which was released in 2023, and has kept up the style since.

In May 2024, Pink shared an Instagram post of herself getting a fresh cut and wrote, "Getting ready." She was again with her longtime hairstylist Pamela Neal, who was getting her ready to continue the Summer Carnival 2024 tour. A fan with a similar 'do replied, "It's way past time to chop mine off again. When the hair (which is shaved as short as yours all the way around) starts touching my ears, it's too long!" It looks like Pink is back in a blond phase at the moment, but we can't wait to see what hairstyle she shows up with next.
