Stylist Tells Us The Hottest Sneaker Trends For Fall 2024

We've told you what summer's 2024 hottest sneaker trends are, but if you've been paying close attention, you may have noticed that this fall's trends are already popping up on social media as folks begin looking forward to cooler weather (and spooky season). Naturally, we want you to put your best foot forward (pun intended) this fall with the hottest sneaker trends, so we spoke exclusively to Joseph Katz, fashion stylist, media contributor, and host of the YouTube series The Katz Walk. Katz, whose channel has exclusive fashion insights, celebrity interviews, and style tips, had a lot to say about the different types of sneakers that will dominate our fall attire.

Seeing that vibrant sneakers jazzed up our summer outfits, we asked Katz whether zingy colors would continue to reign supreme or whether we will sadly need to retire them. As it turns out, pops of colors are still in for fall. Striped and football-inspired sneakers will also segue into fall. And if you're wondering about black monochrome sneakers — 2023's most wearable shoe trend — let's just say they won't be clawing their way out of our closets any time soon.

That's only the beginning of Katz's fashion forecast, though. From classic joggers to neutrals galore, these are the sneaker styles you need to keep your eyes on if you want to stay in vogue as the temperatures drop.

The classic jogger will steal the spotlight once again

First up: Beige will be beautiful this fall. "Some of the best sneaker trends we will be seeing this fall is the fabulous jogger with bright high-octane colors mixed with light bases like beige and white," Joseph Katz exclusively told Glam. Even though jogger shoes were originally just that — shoes for running — they're still alive and kicking both in the realm of athletics and in the world of fashion.

Since the 1940s, when brothers Rudolf and Adi Dassler launched their Puma and Adidas shops, respectively, these shoes have revolutionized the world of fashion. That said, the classic jogger has come a long way since then. Blending functionality and comfort, the joggers shaped the sneaker movement and turned it into a bonafide fashion statement.

If you want to stay on par with the jogger trend, consider Katz's advice for a modern approach to a classic shoe. As the stylist told us, "Also this fall, buy some fun bulky soles, which will give your sneaker more of the modern contemporary feel."

Retro sneakers will bring a nostalgic vibe to your outfits

‌"I am loving the retro vibe in sneakers. We are seeing a huge increase in Adidas, and Asics retro shoes are really trending now," Joseph Katz told us during our exclusive chat. Undoubtedly, trends come and go, but retro sneakers seem to hold on for dear life — and for good reason. Retro sneakers have become every it-girl's option, elevating athleisure and effortlessly blending it with everyday looks. Case in point? The resurgence of the 1970s cult shoes, the Adidas Sambas.

Many A-listers are embracing the retro vibes, including Katie Holmes, Emily Ratajkowski, and Gigi Hadid. But sneakerheads' love for these retro vibes doesn't stop with the iconic Adidas footwear. For example, 20 years after their appearance in "Kill Bill" on the kicking feet of Uma Thurman, the Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 bright-yellow sneakers resurfaced on Bella Hadid last fall. Similarly, Naomi Campbell was spotted championing the retro Nike OG Retro Air Jordans this February. As we can see, this resurgence has been a long time coming.

So, if you haven't already stocked up with your favorite nostalgia-inspired sneakers, take a hint from Katz, and follow the example of every it-girl in the world of glamour. Find a style that you like, and add that extra wow factor to your ensemble. Worn with a maxi skirt and a comfy cardigan — or any attire that touches on this year's preppy fashion trend — these sneakers will give a perfectly fashion-forward look.

White activewear sneakers are coming back with a vengeance

Everything in life is uncertain, but one thing we can guarantee is that a classic white sneaker will never go out of style when worn well. Even though they were somewhat outdated for summer 2024, they've still been rock-able when paired correctly — and they're holding on to their perennial appeal for fall. In fact, white sneakers, as well as those in neutral shades like cream, are coming back with a vengeance, according to Joseph Katz. "We are seeing a huge increase in cream and white sneakers that have a bolder sole with some cutouts with different texture and materials," the fashion stylist exclusively told Glam, adding that he likes Veja's sneakers in these shades.

The beauty of white sneakers is that they match almost any look you're trying to pull off. Worn with skirts, pants, or dresses, the neutral color of these activewear shoes will create a seamlessly put-together appearance. Worn up or down, these anything-but-vanilla neutrals will effortlessly complement your fall style, keeping your feet comfortable and dry in temperamental weather.

Football-inspired sneakers will ensure you're never on the off-side of fashion

Sporty Spice, is that you? During our exclusive chat, Joseph Katz told us that "[f]un sneakers with a bit of detail" that's reminiscent of "football footwear but for women" will be in this fall. "Check out this Adidas Wales Bonner collection. Very fun," Katz said of the trend. Football-inspired sneakers are fall 2024's it-sneakers to kick in the colder weather season.

Champion the look with a taupe-colored pair that will perfectly match the colder hues usually associated with fall attire. Similarly, opt for velour material to add that fuzzy, warmer feeling to your footwear. However, these sneakers are far more than that. We would dare say that these sneakers perfectly encapsulate trendy fall 2024 fashion (classily edgy at its finest), and there's a reason why Katz calls them "fun." You can easily play around with these, adding colors, texture, and even prints (think leopard!) to bring out your fun and fierce side.

Pops of color and rubber soles will be very in

Joesph Katz exclusively told us that low-tops with thick, rubber-sole color-blocking will be trendy for fall 2024, adding that we can expect to see "[l]ots of light rubber base details with some fun pops of colors and color details." But just what does Katz prefer? "I am loving a brand called MOA Concepts. ... Loving Koio, and they are super comfortable," he explained. These new sneakers blend the colorful summer trend into a whole new fad, and they're the perfect way to jazz up one's fall 'fits.

It's all about colors this fall, too. "Add a bold pop of color to your sneaker collection this fall. Red is the it-color for fall, but you can also include some pink and neon colors," Katz added. Of course, given that colorful sneakers were already summer's hottest shoes, you should have a couple pairs stashed in your wardrobe already. So, staying trendy won't require you to spend an arm and a leg — the colorful sneakers that have stolen our hearts are here to stay, baby!
