Chappell Roan Is Music's Latest It-Girl - Her Most Over-The-Top Outfits To Date

In a world full of pop stars, Chappell Roan definitely stands out with her outrageously fun weird-girl aesthetic. There's nothing off the table when it comes to the "Pink Pony Club" singer's wardrobe. After all, she's known to rock rhinestones galore in every color of the rainbow, but the Missouri-born star didn't always feel comfortable expressing herself sartorially, telling Rolling Stone, "I felt so out of place in my hometown. I wish it was better. I wish I had better things to say. But mentally, I had a really tough time." It was only when she moved to Los Angeles that she realized she could be unabashedly herself — a queer woman and a bonafide fashion lover who creates her own stage 'fits. "I'm the pop star of Good Will. I'm a thrift store pop star. I'm a DIY queen, know what I mean?" she quipped to Rolling Stone.

Roan's aesthetic is inspired heavily by drag, which is evident in her heavily beat makeup and shiny leotards. She also incorporates specific themes into her looks, urging fans to do so as well. "I really encourage people to dress up because it's SO fun to see others in costume too!!" she wrote on Instagram while promoting a tour in September 2023. (Different stops on the tour had different dress-up themes, such as "space" and "angels vs. devils.") "I promise you won't be the only one!! Be who you arrrreeee," Roan added in the caption.

Ultimately, we love Roan for being who she is unapologetically, and we're definitely here for her biggest and baddest outfits. Here are our favorites.

Chappell Roan as the Statue of Liberty

Chappell Roan made a statement at the Governor's Ball in New York City on June 9 when she came out dressed as Lady Liberty. The "Femininomenon" singer was a sight to see in olive-green body makeup, a tube top in the same color, and a studded skirt with panels. On her head was a silver spiked crown. "I am in drag of the biggest queen of all," she told the cheering crowd. Roan declared that her getup was meant to represent LGBTQ+ and women's rights, adding, "It especially means freedom for all oppressed people in occupied territories."

Chappell Roan channelled her own unique Medieval era

Chappell Roan's red corset dress looked striking enough on her, but the dramatic headpiece with a long veil was totally extra in the best possible way. The color contrasted her alabaster skin perfectly and made her look like a Medieval queen. Curiously enough, Roan attached a prosthetic pig's snout to her nose, and the look became promo material for a new song. "Good Luck, Babe! out April 5th the first song of the next chapter," she captioned the look on Instagram. Only Roan is brave enough to resemble a pig while dressed in royal red, and we respect it.

Chappell Roan looked pretty in pink with a bubbly dress

Chappell Roan didn't go to her prom, so perhaps that's why she opted for this '80s-themed strapless number with a big flouncy skirt for her "Tiny Desk Concert" this March. To go with the theme, the singer accessorized with matching arm warmers and over-the-knee stockings. And, because Roan always does things in a big way, she pouffed up her red hair into a beehive and placed clear butterfly clips throughout. The dainty crown on her head was the perfect finishing touch.

Chappell Roan showed off her handiwork with her bedazzled pants

Chappell Roan couldn't decide between fringe, embroidery, or rhinestones, so she decided to go for all three when creating this over-the-top pair of jeans. We say go big or go home, especially when it comes to one-of-a-kind fashion. "I handmade these pants," she boasted in a February 2022 Instagram post. Roan has some impressive sewing skills, and she definitely has a career as a fashion designer if she ever gets bored of making people around the world fall in love with her.

Chappell Roan's superhero 'fit

If Chappell Roan were a superhero, this red latex bodysuit with side tassels would definitely be her costume. From the black choker to the star motifs on her chest, combined with leather wristbands, her 2024 Boston Calling Music Festival look is giving Marvel vibes (though Roan's trendy villain makeup may just put her on the bad-guy list). Superhero or villain? We're sure the "Guilty Pleasure" singer has a bit of both sides to her — in the best way.

Chappell Roan was a bedazzled sight in her purple 'fit

Chappell Roan was a rhinestone cowgirl when she opened for Olivia Rodrigo during the "Vampire" singer's Guts World Tour. She looked dazzling in a sparkly, studded lavender bodysuit, matching gloves and hat, and sheer stockings. Purple was definitely the theme of Roan's look, and we particularly love that the color made her auburn locks stand out. This was one of her best stage-worthy outfits that leaned a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll.

Chappell Roan's Cowgirl Barbie-esque look

Chappell Roan went back to her Missouri roots with a country-Western aesthetic, but, of course, she had to put her own dramatic spin on it. The diva wore an oversized denim blazer-style jacket with her favorite embellishments: tassels. The rest of her 'fit consisted of a shiny bubblegum-pink bra top and bottom. Cowboy boots completed Roan's look, but they weren't your standard run-of-the-mill style. Rather, they were pink and blinged-out, and we wouldn't expect any less.
